A pharmacist is a health care professional that assists physicians in filling prescriptions for patients and customers. You would have to do a pre-pharmacy curriculum including but not limited to; Gen. Chem, Gen. Biology, Organic Chem, Anatomy and Physiolgy, Physics, Calculus, etc, which will take you about 2-4 years to complete along with your core curriculum. Then you go on to pharmacy school that is like another 4 years. Yes it seems difficult, but you have many rewards when you are finished. but it does depends on what pharmacy school you are trying to get into...so you need to do your research on different pharmacy schools. Pharmacists are highly needed in the US. The start out roughly around $65000 to 75000/yr. So they make really good money. There are many different areas where you can work as a pharmacist, hospitals, clinics, retail (CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Kroger's, etc). But you need to do alot of research, because you need to make really good grades, GPA does play a big part in getting in pharmacy school. I had a friend who had a 3.7 who didn't get in her first time, the next time she had a 3.8 and she got in that time. So happy studying!

the 'assistant' is called a technician. There is a huge difference in educational requirements and compensation between the two.

Once you get in, it is either 3 or 4 years depending an where you go. It is academically rigorous. Make no mistake about it.

There is a great deal that pharmacists do and need to know. You don't think we paid 100K+ annually to type labels and count pills do you?

I've worked in a hospital and a "Rite-Aid". Both are quite different and have distinct advantages and hassles. I've spent more time in hospitals, but currently work in retail. I don't know if it is the best for me or not, but so far this year I'm about 15K ahead of where I'd be at the hospital......and that's a good thing.

And YES.....you must take physics.

Most schools require you to take physics. It takes a minimum of 6 years to acquire a PharmD. It is not an easy courseload because of all the science courses involved. In Prepharmacy, you tend to go head to head with the PreMed students.
Some people prefer retail pharmacy and others prefer hospital, it's a personal taste. However, you do make more money in retail. Starting income in my area for retail is in the upper 90K, and for hospital mid to high 80K.

First, you have to learn to read and WRITE!
Then you have to take a lot of chemistry, and stuff like biology, zoology, algebra, etc. you have to finish college, and then go into a pharmacy program with an internship.
it's more than counting out pills! The liability for making a mistake can be death!
It's Rite Aid, and i don't know the pay scales, but it used to be very good, anywhere!
