Why is a book written by man regarded as the word of God? Jesus did not dictate, and neither did God, so why do people look to a book when we can look to nature the creation of a deity for our answers.

Because people tend to believe what they have been told since childhood and rarely are able to think for themselves as they grow and prosper. No one should consider the bible as the word of god...the only word of god is the interactions you have in your everyday life. God speaks to people in all kinds of ways if they just listen. You don't need a church, a preacher or a bible to be religious and believe in god.

God destined certain men to write it. He gave them the inspiration, the creativity and the will to actually put the words on paper. A Christian believe by faith that the Bible is living and active and sharper then any double edged sward. Nature is a wonderful thing but it cannot answer all your questions. Can a flower explain the 10 Commandments? It can point you to the King of Kings but not how to follow him.

In this new testament Bible passage, the risen Jesus fully endorses the writings of the old testament, and promises to send the Apostles the Holy Spirit ... the Spirit of Truth and Wisdom.

Luk 24:44 And he said to them: These are the words which I spoke to you while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled which are written in the law of Moses and in the prophets and in the psalms, concerning me.
Luk 24:45 Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.
Luk 24:46 And he said to them: Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer and to rise again from the dead, the third day:
Luk 24:47 And that penance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, unto all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luk 24:48 And you are witnesses of these things.
Luk 24:49 And I send the promise of my Father upon you: but stay you in the city till you be endued with power from on high.

Suitably empowered by God, the apostles proceeded to write (or cause to be writtten, under their supervision) and under the direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the entire new testament.

It is the new testament and the constant Tradition of the church, based on Jesus' own testimony and that of the apostles, that all scripture is inspired by God, dictated to human writers by the Holy Spirit, and set down truthfully, and without error.

Christians believe that the scriptures are divinely inspired by God. No, they are not direct dictation and yes, they are tainted by the culture in which they were written. This is why Biblical Scholarship is such an important and sticky area of study.

irishinvenice,
Oh what you miss! lol

The words, they are in front of any who look! And yet they do not see. They do not see the meaning of the words. God's Spirit brings truth, and the word of God is unfolded to those who turn to Him. We say, "Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life," and they still ask the questions such as yours. We tell them more and they do not understand, and they begin to hate us.

God can insprire to learn and understand.
And yet they doubt! Who can believe our report? To whom is the ARM of the Lord revealed?
Isaiah 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Such was the way it was INSPIRED!

Jesus did say He was THE WAY, THE LIFE, and THE TRUTH. He didn't say he was one of many different ways, one of many different lives, and one of many different truths. Jesus quoted the word of God when he was dealing with the devil: Luke 4:4,8,12 and also the when he was dealing with the his disciples: Luke 8:10. Read your bible and see for yourself.

The Godhead is triune and the third person of the Godhead inspired men to write the Bible.
