I used to live in Hawaii in an apartment. My cat couldn't go outside, so I used to take him to play in parks and to the beach.
The beach we went to was fairly secluded and we went in the late afternoon/evening. There were never many people around. He absolutely loved it. He'd kinda look at the water, didn't get too close though. Then he'd run and play in the sand. He really had a good time not being cooped up in that apartment all the time.
I would never have attempted to take him to a beach that was crowded with a bunch of people, that alone would've scared him. He did enjoy his beach trips though. Not a dumb question. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has taken a cat to the beach.

I think that Karen's answer about taking her cat to the beach in the evening when it is not crowded is the best idea. I would be concerned with the heat and the crowds. Personally, I have this fear that if I took my cat anywhere and it got scared, that it would run and hide. Then it might get lost or run in the street or something would happen separate us. I don't know how I would deal with that, as it would devastate me.

No, I don't like the beach, it is too sandy and messy, and I don't really like the ocean either. I love the outdoors, but not the beach. I prefer to hike in the woods.

I suppose if you have taught your cat to walk with a leash that you could take them to the beach. I wouldn't take them and let them run loose though. They could run away. They would love all of the sand, like a huge litter box.

Personally I have never sson one on the beach. To a cat, I would think it would not like it simply because it's a big wet litter box. : )

The cat in my avatar doesn't go to the beach, but she does go to the pubs with me. At one she has her own bar stool (and will meow if someone is sitting in it). At others she likes to sit in my lap (or anyone else's lap, for that matter) while on the patio.
