Go for a Suzuki Swift - supposed to be a very under-rated car, but better than the Mini.

I assume it's a 'city car' or 'supermini' you're after, and you're buying brand new.

Fiat Pandas start at £6500 for a basic 1.1 model, or you can spend a bit more on a slightly more powerful 1.2 model, with more equipment (air conditioning probably). 5 doors, and a bit fo a hoot to drive I'm told, though i'm also told that Fiat dealers are rubbish.

Otherwise, try a Japanese Toyota Yaris or Honda Jazz. Bulletproof machines with tall body designs and suprising amounts of space, and the Yaris in particular is rather nice to drive. A reasonaly specced Yaris diesel, which is very good on fuel, should be about £10k.

Well for what you pay for a Ford Fiesta you could very well go for cars like Honda City which is very good in performance and if you are looking for some mean machine at the same range you could go for Safari. I bet you would love that.

im a car nut- i am gettin the audi tt so i know my stuff!

best buy is vw polo- pricey =yes but it holds its value.
if u buy opel or japanese brands- build quality is bad, it will lose value quickly!!

also vw is very safe, solid built car = go see in showroom compared to ford's , opel..... slam the door- a solid thud

anything german(not opel) is good in terms of value and value when u sell, built quality is top.

i'd go for polo as i had one for my first car.- our family only buy german.

Best I can do is that the last time I bought a new car I asked the guy who serviced my car and he said buy a Toyota. I bought a Toyota picnic and never regretted it. lovely car to drive

Somebody mentioned Fiat Panda.

I have had several Fiat`s and looking back I cannot say anything
positive about them.
(except the second-hand price which is usually next to nothing)

Those are small cars. I think a Civic or Corolla would be a good choice.
