It depends on the type of student loan you take out. Federal loans are disbursed directly to the school, and that money will be applied to whatever you owe to the school. So, in most cases, you won't get direct access to the funds.

If you want to get the money, go with a private loan. There are a few providers who sent the check directly to you, including www.thinkfinancial.com, www.astrive.com and www.nextstudent.com.

Be careful! Student loans might sound good now, but the interest rates are rising like crazy and you'll have to pay them back right out of school. Don't make the mistake I did by not planning my budget. Now I'll be in debt for the rest of my life! And college is supposed to be about education- well it's not! It's all about $$$. Just be careful and know that someday you'll be paying the money back tenfold.

That depends on what school you go to. Because the maxium amount that you could receive depends on the school you attend and you unique financial situation. But to answer your question yes you can, but I doubt you will get enough to by a decent car. But don't make a habit of that cause remember you have to pay that money back, and trust me the government don't play with their money.

Use it for school, first and foremost. Once you get all that paid off for the year, then save the leftover.

and to strawberry, it may be just about money to people lending. BUt for me, it;s about education. And I'll do what i can to get my education.

Yes, that's your money. You have to pay it back someday. Also, they consider that you need transportation back and forth to classes. My son used a $500.00 schlorship money for tires once. Gotta have tires. Don't forget to buy your books first.
