Probably several different categories of reasons, but according to your own cosmology, which reason is "reason enough" to put forth the effort?

They are a mockery to God, that in it self says they have a god also. Gods opposite.

They sound like straight people that hang out in a gay bar complaining about the gays, isn't there other places they could go if they didn't like it.

I am not concerned with dissuading believers. I consider them to be lost causes. The fact that they ARE believers is all the indication I need that they are intellectually incapable of exercising the critical thinking skills necessary to achieve rationality. Of course, in some cases I could be wrong about that... but not in enough cases to make it worth fretting over.

No... what I am concerned about is that the willful ignorance and self-delusion that characterizes religious belief seems to be communicable... a 'brain virus'... or, as Richard Dawkins would term it... a 'meme'. I feel that is my moral duty and ethical obligation to intervene, where I can, in an effort to protect vulnerable minds who are seriously seeking for answers, and are susceptable to being contaminated by these insidious religious myths and delusions.

Rationality and education are the appropriate medicines to combat religion.

I don't necessarily want to dissuade them. I just want them to bring some real evidence to the table that makes me know they did some logical thinking and reasoning to get to the conclusion they did.

Atheists and believers are the same. They read the Bible in the same way (litteralism) and they try to dissuade each other. Why? I wrote it already: BECAUSE
THEY
ARE
THE
SAME.

There is a third way. What is it?
Think.
