it's all in consumption (how much you eat), moderation is the key. Keeping your diet {(and i'm not talking about south beach diet, or atkins) when i say diet "the way you eat" } low in sugars and fats. Natural food is much better than process food of course. but watch out what some diet products say, always read, research what you eat. because most companies are in it for the money, and will do anything for you to buy their product.

There's been a lot said in the media that sweetners can cause people to crave carbohydrates. when I was obese (over 20 st) I was addicted to diet coke! I drank loads of the the stuff! Now I still can't drink the normal coke (it just tastes too sweet ~ and the thought of all that sugar!) I think its best to stick to fresh juice ( I try and drink it watered down) I do have the odd can of diet coke though but nothing in comparison to what I used to drink.

I don't know about chemicals in sweetners or anything, but Heinz Baked Beans, the DIET variety, saves you only FOUR calories compared to other brands of non diet beans. And the're much more expensive.
If you're seriously trying to loose weight, get one of those booklets (published about four times a year) that tell you what calories foods contain, everything from fresh vegetables to tv dinners.

I think natural foods are really the best, but that is my opinion. Often diet foods contain chemicals to make them taste sweet or creamy or fatty, and these chemicals are not always healthy. Aspartame, for example is used as a sweetener in some diet foods and many people consider this a harmful chemical.
I like to stick with real, natural foods. Fresh fruits and veggies and I even like to get my meats from the butcher. These foods are super yummy and filling, as well as packed with vitamins. If you eat a hardy meal of fresh veg and meat, you'll have all your vits & mins and you'll leave the table with a happy belly!
Just my way of thinking (and, having reached my mid-thirtys, I'm still not fat!!)

Natural food is always better than synthetic. Toss the artificial sweetner unless you are diabetic

I do agree with you that natural foods are better for you for I suffer a heart attack 10 years ago and had to change my eating habits to more natural foods. It does take a while (which people on telly do not tell you) for you to get used to it but it comes good in the long run. Good luck and it would be nice to know how you get on.

chemicals are really bad for you , but so is manufactured sugar , like granulated. i only trust fruit sugar (sugar derived from fruits n nothing else ) and ive tried to cut down on chemicals but nearly everything u eay nowadays has chemicals in it , even some vegetables , coz some are genetically modified , so they taste better or something , but im more of a natural person. i mean , humans survived before all these fancy cakes n chemical packed sweets. so why do we need chemicals now ? i justd odnt get it

Not necessarily.
Diet pop (diet Pepsi and diet coke), have aspartame in them, which is somehow connected to cancer. (Not sure where, but it should have been banned along with that other sweetener that causes cancer, I think it was saccharine) There is a pop drink called Talking Rain, it's from Canada, they sell it at Sam's Club that is all natural 5 calories. Pretty much like carbonated, flavored water but better.
Food like the nutrisystem and other meal plans are ok, but extremely high in sodium. (Like frozen meals are.) They limit portions more than anything. (You would starve off of trying to exercise and eat their food)
Other foods I'm unsure about, but most taste pretty bad. (At least to me)
