Don't throw it out.
1. Try this first if you know your computer was working right on a certain day: Start>Run>type in this: msconfig. Hit OK. Under the "General" tab, press "Launch System Restore." Select "Restore my computer to an earlier time" and hit OK. A calendar will pop up and you can select a day/month you know the computer was working properly. Then activate it, and your computer should be ok.
2. If that doesn't work, at the very worst you can reinstall. Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
3. After your computer's reset, run a virus/spyware scan on it to be safe.
It is a huuuge pain in the rump, I know. I've been there, and the tech people at the DSL co. started to know me by first name, lolol!

You either have a virus in your computer or a nasty bit of malware.

The best way to get rid of this is to run an anti-virus program (AVG is the best), and Ad-Aware SE Personal.

Usually things like what you've described is because either one I've talked about has popped up and is causing you problems.

Also, do a de-frag of your system, a disc-clean operation, and finally do a System Restore (to an earlier time), if all else fails.

Our computer was hacked into despite all the latest updates and such, and someone messed with the settings which prevented me from accessing more than one system's window or the internet.

So I had to backtrack and close the "hole" which allowed the snark access to my system.

Download CWShredder and run it from safe
mode (press F8 on startup to get to safe mode). Then also run a good
antivirus before restarting. And for good measure run a bunch of the
other antispyware and antivirus programs discussed in this group all the
time.
