shop around. Ask your friends and relatives - the best way to find a good agent is to get a referral from a friend or relative.

You don't say what your age is, or what your driving involves. What I can tell you is simple: Liability is the most important part. Everybody worries about paying a few hundred dollars to fix their car, but if you are sued after injuring someone else, you may have nothing for the rest of your life. It is a good idea to make sure you have un/underinsured motorist coverage as well. If you have a newer car, look at collision and comprehensive with the highest decuctible you can live with. By the way, I don't like to put companies down, but 2 companies with names sounding something like "state" are known as the hardest for other insurance companies to deal with, and one of them was the target of a multimillion dollar lawsuit over the quality of parts used in collision repairs.

Not to be contrary or anything, but the best auto insurance is being self-insured. You have to have a bunch of money to do that legally. If you did have a bunch of money you probably wouldn't be asking this question.
State Farm or Allstate - a large enough enough company that you can sue for bad faith claims handling. One that would rather pay you millions than go to court in front of a jury that hates insurance companies.

If you are in the military then go with USAA. If not then explore it with the internet and see for yourself which ones give you what you want and more. at the best and reasonable prices. Don't go with an insurance company because someone says it is awsome. I did that. He got the "Hook Up" and i got shafted with 260$ a month payments. I joined the military and I go with military insurance at full coverage for an SUV 4 door for 125 and Im 20 yrs old.

They all suck.........I use progressive, they have good rates and you can print id cards right offline (which is good if you have a new car or need insurance like yesterday!)

Geico or AIG are both cheap and good. State Farm is good also, yet not as inxpensive.

I like Traveler's.
Shop around. Rates do vary, although the logic of it all escapes me.
