i do it width wise

Cut it length wise (from top to bottom) and coat it with butter or a very good olive oil and roast in the oven for 20-25 minutes at 350ºF

I cut it lengthwise and microwave with a couple teaspoons of water. It always turns out great.

It doesn't really matter, whatever's easier for you. Just try to get both halves as equal as possible so they'll cook evenly.
