Lots of cars with AWD for less than that. Just bought a Mazda Tribute for $17K brand new. The 4WD version (always on in the Tributes case...so really it is AWD) was only $1500 more than the 2WD version.

For that kind of cash, not only can you get AWD, but you can get a Hybrid Escape & save on fuel, too! Not to mention the federal income tax incentive ($1900) that you get, & the positive impact on the environment !
Looks like a "no brainer" to me.
