Actually, I used to keep score of what I contributed. When my husband and I were first married we both had good jobs that paid well. After the first few months I was laid off. We desided that since we had some money saved and that my husband worked for an airline we would take time to travel before I would look for a new job. During that time I felt totally useless and that I might be considered to be so because I was used to being independant and taking care of myself financially. I didn't feel like I was at liberty to spend any money because I didn't make any. (NOT because my husband made me feel that way, but because I had a different image of myself since losing my job) I have been back in the work force for several years now and since that time my husband was laid off and I have returned back to the earning level I should be at this stage in my career. I now earn more than him. I learned that he wasn't keeping score, even though I was, and now that the tables are turned I have learned that part of the joy of being married is that you are in it together. He supported me when I was at a difficult point in my life and I supported him when it was his turn. He also handles more of the domestic chores than I do since I work further from home and he gets home earlier. When we have children we have agreed that I can go back to part time work and I am just fine with that. I learned that you can't really keep track of what eachother contributes because there are so many different ways to do so. Knowing that I can count on him and he on me is far more valuable.

Well when I was married it wouldn't have done any good. What difference would it make I was not expecting anything back? All I ever wanted from my spouse was love, a little emotional support now and then, and a help mate. I would have been happy if he had just stayed home and let me make the living if it was that big of a deal for him as long as he watched the kids. I wasn't opposed to trading places with him. I never felt like I asked too much. Here I sit married twice, lonely, and divorced. So you tell me????????

Not really (when I was married anyway)...what good would it do? It's not a competition and throwing around "well I did 'this, this and this'" is just going to create hard feelings and resentments...
If you're not ready to be a couple...to share life and responsibilities, then you shouldn't be married...

Yes I do and them telling me differently has never been an issue. I will not hesitate to prove them wrong and they know it.
