This has to do with two different things. First, less blood flow to the extremities. As you get older, you have poorer blood flow, and you tend to be less active. This would cause some swelling in the fingers. The other reason is because as you grow older, your extremities continue to grow. Feet, hands, your nose, your ears all continue to grow.

Many older peope have arthritis. Hands and fingers are common sites of arthritis. This causes the joints to thicken and sometimes deforms the hands.

Give her what she likes to eat, I had to do that with my youngest son, he didn't like the chunks in food either, so I kept giving him the pureed food instead, with trying every once in a while to give him the food that had the chunks in it, and eventually he ate it, and enjoyed it. I think that he just wasn't used to it! It took some time but he eventually got it and liked it. As for finger foods maybe try, baby carrots ( sliced in half, length wise), grapes ( sliced in half, length wise), any cereal ( like honey comb), cheese cut into cubes. Good Luck and remember, she'll eventually come around, and even like food that is not pureed, you just have to give her time.

lots of reasons, most given by earlier answerers, eg weight, arthritis, circulation. Trauma is sometimes a cause as well as edema.
