heh. im an atheist and i think theyre great!
im responding because i have a story to tell, like many of my fellow nonbeleivers this quick story will be similar to things theyve heard. of course they vary from time to time.
i once got into a debate with a theist, i asked him about some fossils that were found and what he thought of them. he gave me 2 responses, both were contradictive but still he was adimant that they were FACT! (he constantly used the capitalized word "FACT!" after everything he said)
one was that the fossils were put there by god to test us, that they were meant to test our faith in him to see if we would waiver. he ensured me that he would never waiver from his beleif.
the second was that they were put there by satan as an attempt to get people to not beleive in god.
already im sure you can see the contradiction. when i asked him about the contradiction he said he realised that it contradicts himself but thats how satan worked. apparently he worked closely to how god worked so we mere humans couldnt tell the difference.
so in conclusion, fossils found are put there by god to test our faith in him....and ALSO put there by satan to get people not to believe in god.
so apparently we have to determine which are from god and which are ploys made by satan.....absurd. huh?
theists....completely devoid of logic

We have found skeletons of these sorts for years and years. This isn't a 'human being'. This is a primate. A mammal that has 2 legs and 2 arms. All primate resemble each other. Yes, my skeleton is similar to monkeys, apes and gorillas. We are all primates. Primates have existed after dinosaurs became extinct. Mammal were in control of the planet then. Apes and monkeys are still apes and monkeys. Us, homosapiens, are still homosapiens. Apes and monkeys are a little different today than they were years ago and homosapiens are a little different today than they were years ago. But because apes and homosapiens have always existed together througout the years proves that homosapiens never evolved from apes. If we had then all the ape species would be extinct.
This skeleton is of a primate, an ape, not a homosapien. Also note that all the articles about this discovery mentions that the skeleton is of a "human-like" form. Not a human. There are scienfitic differences within primates.
My question to these scientists are how do they know it's actually 3.3 million years old. I want to know how someone can determine the age of skeletons, rocks, and fossils and petrified trees.

Go created the universe, much like bill gates created Microsoft
He didnt actually craft every single animal or grain of sand or motorcar or aircraft with his own hands did he, OK he probably had a hand in Concorde and the supermarine Spitfire, and the new Honda Civic but otherwise he put mechanisms in place and let his creations get on with evolving into the animals we know today.
Again God created man in his own image, but everybody dont look the same so of course some people were a bit different, I reckon I saw that bloke in the photo in Truro . Clearly as Man evolved some folks went north and became white and some stopped near the equator and became blackened.
There may be some Oldtestamentites about out there what sees evolution as anti christian but they are plain thick.

I read a book not so long ago where a scientist and roboticist who builds robots based on the natural arms, and other natrual things, explained all this. He conclusively proved that all the so called ancient 'human' remains were actually those of various forms of ape. He proved it by comparitive anatomy and simple logic. He is an expert in bones and muscle, architecture etc. He has to be to build robots that mimic human arms etc.
He mentioned this species along with many others. All turned out to be apes. But people still want to find the so-called missing link and they will do anything to hang onto that idea rather then accept that it might not exist.
As for creation. There is a form of evolution within a species. That should always be accepted as truth as it explains the various changes in each species. But evolution of one species to another? Even most scientists have now abandoned that idea. They are no longer trying to explain it. They have reached the point where they now admit that they simply do not know.
The idea of the big bang has moslty gone that way as well.
But there are always a few die hards who simply will not let go. And the media just loves to sensationalise everything so we are blinded by the hype.
My answer? There are many things we don't know. Many we are only just learning about. And many we can know. God simply said he created and that it was in the beginning. He never said how he did or when the beginning was.
So why don't we all just finally admit that there are things we simply do not know?
I'm ready to. I know I don't know everything. But this I do know. I have experienced the truth and power of God in my life. I have seen healing and ministered it. I have also receieved it. The same with miracles and many other things people say don't happen or exist.
If we don't know about the truth of the past, how can we think we know there is no God?
All I know is that for me, I have seen and heard enough to prove the point. I believe because I know. I have seen. I have heard. I have done.
God has saved my life on no less then fouteen occasions. He has delivered me from problems and situations most would have been destroyed by.
He healed my mother of an incurable disiease and even the doctors and scientists had to admit that it was true. But they wouldn't do so publically because they are afraid to.
But there will always be critics on both sides. There will always be those who cannot accept any truth. I know science shows us things that seem to prove one thing or another. Sometimes they are right and sometimes wrong.
But the truth has always proven right no matter what. It has proven itself dependable as has God. So I will go with the always dependable not the sometimes right. And where science says the opposite. Let them argue with God themselves. I'm not his defence attorney.
Theories always need defending and propping up. They change and evolve. Truth is constant. It never changes. It never needs defending and it never needs propping up.
So I choose to believe. You can choose not to. Enjoy your choice. I will mine.
And thanks for letting me waffle on.

The Catholic Church at least believes in evolution, therefore The Dikka Fossil is but an ancestor of modern homo sapiens. The bible is allegorical, using facts and traditions of the audiences it was meant to address to convey a message. Genesis did not literally happen, it is a beautiful story about how God created life. It was also written thousands of years ago to an audience with out astro- and geo-physicists to explain the science of things. What is important is that humans, God's children, continue using their given talents to expand human knowledge and use it to grow together. Knowledge and communication is a way to bring us all together. Science is but one medium.

Man, if we hand any inkling as to how the irrational mind of a Christian worked, I think we'd all be better off.
Christianity holds in its power tools that oh-so-conveniently explain away everything. I call them Cop-Out answers and most of them were already given by Christians themselves. 1) The Lord works in mysterious ways. 2) We cannot understand the mind of God. 3) Fossils are a plant by Satan to trick mankind. 4) C14 is a scientific lie to fool people.
The list goes on and on. Like I said, they're all cop-out answers. No logic, no rationality, nothing.

Yep... this'l be good..lol....
Well, yer basic bible thumper reckons that fossils are there because a. satan put 'em there to make us question christybloodyanity.... OOooohh.. did you see what he did there? Clever... d'oh.
And B. Cos seven days is just a metaphor and that god didnt actually do it in seven days cos days are longer for god......
And C. Jesus died for your sins.... fingers in ears.... fossils dont even exist.... LA LA LA LA LA LA LA !!!
At best ya average weirdo religio nutchops is trying to kid themselves and those around them. At worst? Well how about destroy the non believer... harsh? Not historically. In fact extremely accurate.
Heres the facts. GOD doesnt exist. Least not in the form that organised religion would have you fight for. Prayer doesnt work. God isnt all powerful and omnipresent. Otherwise, cos he's a caring god, he would have done something to stop all the wars and atrocities committed in his name.
Here's a great tip. Keep ya money in your pocket son and look at the world in wonder. Be nice to people and try not to be too offended when people aren't too nice to you. Enjoy it and dont for christ's sake go into the gross, misguided churches of the worlds religions. It'll only encourage them.
Hope that helped.

where does everyone get the idea that God created the world in 6 24-hour periods of time?!
God may well have created parts of the world, then after millions more years created more, as the earth evolved.
fossils fit easily into the picture

God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. Scientific research simply uncovers what God created and that includes uncovering evidence of creatures that lived on this earth long before we did.
So, no, God didn't create all species at the same time, but through evolution (it appears) God brought each spieces to life in its own time - and some of them were brought to life (and died) before our time.

Why is this question directed to "Christians". Most Chrisitians (including JPII) accept evolution as the best set of scientific theories giving a historical narrative of how man got here.
This is most of the world.
You seem to use the word "Christians" and "American fundamentalist idiots" interchangeably. There is a whole world out their and many billions of Christians who are fascinated by the find and how it adds to story of human evolution. There are many more christians out there, with sensible beliefs on evolution than the entire population of the US.
