"Denver police confirmed Thursday they arrested Rubi-Nava on a traffic charge in April but released him.

Police spokeswoman Virginia Quinones said the arresting officer suspected Rubi-Nava's identification may have been forged, but she said the department was not responsible for verifying a suspect's immigration status, and a new Colorado law directing police to cooperate with federal immigration officers was not yet in force. "

Also, 4 of the 9/11 aircraft crew had been stopped for traffic violations when they had expired visas - one while on his way to meet his compatriots for the actual sky jacking (the ticket was found in the glove compartment of the rental car on 9/11). I think that local enforcement is overdue.

This is totally aside from what happens to screened people here. I think we are playing games with ourselves if we are setting up expensive proceedures to stop illegal immigration then are ignoring the most logical ways of enforcing law.

What do you think?

Judith, I am not quite sure I follow you. She hit him, he gave her a black eye. She hits him, he ties a rope around her neck and drags her a mile to disfiguring her so that it takes days to identify her. Hmmm.

Sashie, the state legislature passed some laws to have local police cooperate with ICE. I believe that impacted Denver's status as a sanctuary city.

Denver being a sanctuary city at the time the police picked him up in April could have something to do with it ... apparently Denver has changed their policy in that regard now, or so I heard somewhere ... but I could never understand myself why local police have never been given a full mandate to do their job properly ... obviously, they are the people on the ground, they are the ones who could make a real difference ... and they are the ones who have their hands tied ... weird business ... you would nearly bet that our government is hellbent on destroying what's left of this country ....

I was reading the posts from that link and found this one interesting:

These heartless, cruel and ugly monsters do as they wish because the consequences of their actions are a joke. The laws protect the criminals instead of the victims. The laws here in the United States are too lenient on these types of monsters. They should be punished harshly for their horrible actions. Oh don't worry my fellow American taxpayers... slave away at your job 50 hours a week and Uncle Sam will take a big chunk to feed these monsters. What a sick system!

The man was in custody last spring for a violation, no insurance, and an illegal.

The local police had no jurisdiction to turn him over to Immigration.

The Republican Congress just introduced a bill to allow that.

The Dems are vehemently against it.
Da ya think maybe illegals are voting? And for what party? Hmmmmmmm?

Watched the debate live this week.

My son, a deputy sheriff, has been given the instruction that unless the illegal is arrested for violent behavior...let it go....

The jails are filling up with illegals and the county has to bear the brunt until ICE picks them up...the paperwork is extensive and...the excuse is...don't pick up an illegal on a minor traffic violation when we need the room for

THE REAL CRIMINALS!

Now, with their hands tied....what can they do?

This is a reversal of their policy 6 months ago...the change came "down from the top"...whatever that means...

He may get off on the battered wife defense, since witnesses said she always hit him first. Sounds to me like she deserved what she got.
