Q: "At what age can a child be left home alone in Maryland?"
A: Family Law Article, § 5-801, provides:

(a) A person who is charged with the care of a child under the age of 8 years may not allow the child to be locked or confined in a dwelling, building, enclosure, or motor vehicle while the person charged is absent and the dwelling, building, enclosure, or motor vehicle is out of the sight of the person charged unless the person charged provides a reliable person at least 13 years old to remain with the child to protect the child.

(b) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to a fine not exceeding $500 or imprisonment not exceeding 30 days, or both.

When I called to ask this very question no one seemed to have a real answer for me. I think 12 or 13 seems about right. Depends on the child and the circumstances. Some children are more mature than others and some are less self confident. so it is up to you to make the right decision!

You really need to know the law in the state that you live because every state varies. If you don't know how to look it up online, you could always call the Dept. of Socail Services in your area, and they could tell you. You also have to go with what your gut instinct tells you too....just because the law may say she is old enough in age, doesn't mean she is mentally. If you aren't comfortable with it, you could always look into after school programs, or even having her stay at a friends house until you get home. I hope this helped :)

I believe that if the kid is mature enough by the parents guide lines than that should be the age you choose I think the legal age is 12 but if it were for me I would probably pic 45.
