The american education system is third world unless you have the money to pay for private quality education. It has been deliberately dumbed down to ensure that the increasingly illiterate electorate can be manipulated into believing anything. Sad, but true.

I think the vast majority of americans believe in evolution, so i don't know where you're getting that idea. However, there is no physical proof for evolution, so no, it has not been proven. There are facts supporting the theory of evolution, just as there are facts (such as walking off a cliff) that support the theory of gravity. There is no proof though, because there is no record of how species adapted to their environment. It would be just as easy for me to say that God changed species every time he felt like changing the world so that His creation would survive in the new habitat. Although it would certainly seem more likely that evolution is the true culprit to species change, the evidence really would support both these theories, and that is why evolution cannot be proven: because the evidence for it does not also make it the only possibility. Also, all you liberal catch-phrase machines need to start thinking outside your stereotypes. I know Christians and Republicans are supposed to be the big haters and the ones with closed minds but how about this characterization that all people who believe in God are idiots who turn a blind eye to everything that contradicts their religion? I'm Christian, I believe in evolution to an extent, and I realize that the Bible was written by men, who are by nature imperfect and that therefore it may be an exaggeration in some parts. I can't believe in evolution all the way though, because natural selection would have eliminated closed-minded idiots like yourself a long time ago and it is only through divine intervention that you are around to condemn those who believe differently than you for being biggots and oppressors of the open-minded. Consider that for me.

Really doesn't have anything to do with the education system. As for education, I live in one of the areas that rank on the bottom of the list in America and they teach evolution here. No matter what is taught in the schools, the BS always goes deeper than the facts. I have heard parents tell their kids that to remember what they're taught in class for the tests, but to not believe everything they are being taught. Very few people I know actually tell their kids to look it up themselves or to research something to see if it's correct or not. It's sad.
LOL @ not believing in gravity because it's a theory. I have to admit, that has to be one of the worst ways I've seen people combat evolution. I guess they think calling it a theory makes it meaningless.

I think the Americans are simply acknowledging the fact that all scientific knowledge is provisional. Subsequent scientific discoveries might change an accepted fact, possibly prove it wrong. After all, rational science once said that the Earth was the centre of the universe.
There is a lot of evidence in support of the theory of evolution, but evidence in support of a theory doesn't prove the theory correct. It simply makes it more likely to be true. It would be unscientific to say that evolution is a proven fact.
The theory of evolution is simply an attempt to explain fossil evidence and variation among species. Future scientific research might come up with a better explanation, just as it did with the theory of the Earth centred universe.

There is an interesting trend in America today to not really invest much thought. It can be seen in the TV shows, music, and pretty much all forms of entertainment. This is what I think is happening here. Rather then become educated on the subject, it is easier to just listen to a preacher tell you why evolution is wrong and then don't give it another thought. The scientists who are actually educated on the subject have over a 99% rate of believe evolution is proven.

Dude there is something seriously wrong with your method of thinking. I say this for a few reasons. You get some great joy at taking a swipe at Americans, also at those with faith.
Let me shed a little light into your tiny mind, because i am sick of hearing you whelp on like a little bairn.
You make out you understand evolution but you fail to see.
Now please read and allow this to sink in.
In the beginning was God, and from God came movement. Out of the first movement everything we know has come to pass.
Matter has moved in a direction which has not only brought the sun and planets into existence.
The sun shines, so long as GOD wills, and our planet brings forth life capable of everlasting multiplication. This is what our creator planned.
You rattle on about gravity and cliffs, do you understand anything about gravity? Do you understand how cliffs are formed?
I see now how you come into the religion section, because in the science section you shall be shot down in flames through your lack off understanding. Why mock something you don't understand? Ask yes, but to slag people and there beliefs is a sign of a fool.

May I ask what planet you are living on where Evolution is a fact? Because it isn't this one. You must clarify also whether you're talking about big E Evolution of little e evolution. Little e evolution, as far as micro-evolution is involved, is a proven fact and scientific. Big E Evolution is a theory about the earths origins and therefore cannot be scientifically proven any more than you can prove scientifically that George Washington was the first president of the US.

The fact of evolution is modeled by the theory of evolution. In scientific parlance.
Few atheists and agnostics in america doubt the truth of evolution.

Is there any way to actually prove evolution beyond a shadow of a doubt? There is evidence and proof of ancient humans, but how does that absolutely prove that those humans came from apes? Personally, I believe in evolution. There is certainly a whole lot more evidence to support evolution than the theory introduced in that man made book, the bible.
