HURRAY that your child can read. I encourage mine to read...he reads anything he can get his hands on. Use parental control. I find a lot of comics out there geared towards adult humor. So I would say no. Buy him some books or go to the library. It doesn't cost anything to obtain a card.

I will answer only that this is how I learned to read. First with Seseme Street and later the Peanuts.
There are some adult thened comics that don't belong with children's comics, but that is because of the individual newspaper.

Newspaper comics are some of the tamest materials compared to what's on TV and in the movies. Actually, children can learn to read better if they read comics. It might eventually encourage them to read more books!

Some of my fondest memories as a young child are sitting on my fathers lap while we read the Sunday comics in the newspaper. I learned to read this way and the memories of that closeness with my dad will stay with me always.

Why not? The worst I've ever seen in the comics page is extreme sarcasm. The front page is a lot more likely to warp their fragile little mind, knowledge tends to do that. Are you worried that "Dilbert" will make them want to be a cubicle-monkey? I guess I just don't get it.

2) As to whether they are able to read newspaper comics will depend upon their age.
