whatever you do, do not get another dog. if you are going to, it should be a boxer. boxers get EXTREMELY stressed out from spending time with little dogs. mainly, because they tend to nip, they are yappy, and annoying. Other dogs cant keep up to speed with boxers, and your boxer could hurt it(accidently or on purpose). A lot of boxers LOVE to have another boxer companion, because they are on the same page with eachother and stand eachother better. I've noticed that little dogs dont like boxers, and boxers dont like them either. Everytime i walk my dog(11 year old boxer) the little dogs always start yapping at her and its so annoying, and you can tell my dog does not like it, but she tends to ignore it. But if a boxer were to live with this, forget it. it would hate its life. do the right thing, if you want another dog please get a boxer, because theres not a lot of people who know anything about or like boxers, and there are thousands who need a home or might die. Please also dont buy from a pet store, when you buy a puppy from a pet store, you are killing its mom in reality. because once its sold, the mom is FORCED to have puppies, and she can die from giving birth her whole life, and they also kill the mom once shes not able to reproduce anymore

The best type of dog for Tyson would be a spayed female Boxer.
He would have a playmate his own size and he would not be able to easily hurt her by playing rough, and they will play rough.
You should get a female as that would be a beeter combination and you will not have same sex aggression.
You should feed seperately and then you will not have food aggression.
But a small dog with a Boxer could be hard on the small dog and the Boxer may not be really happy as it would not be able to play and keep up with him.

Your Boxer is was is called a "resource guarding dog". He projects his dominance over other dogs by refusing to allow them to touch his food or toys... When we see this at our shelter we make it a point to give the dogs individualized attention, and to crate them during meal-times. (They then come to associate their crates with food and treats, and enjoy being in them.) Considering your dog's size and his propensity toward resource guarding bringing a smaller dog into the home may be disasterous. Tyson may inadvertantly severely harm the smaller dog (not because he vicious but because he's big and doesn't know his own strength); and if the two dogs came to blows over resources, the smaller dog could easily end up dead.
Some socializaiton courses that focus on resource guarding dogs for Tyson may help him overcome his behavior.
If you must bring a smaller dog into the home, keep the two separate when feeding them or giving them treats, and give them separate play times with toys they enjoy so they are not put into the position where they feel they have to compete with one another.

The transition period- meaning getting your boxer to get used to the new puppy, will be hard but with persistance and positive reinforcement your end result will be positive.
I personally have a yorkie and I know that generally yorkies do outstanding with other dogs irregardless of size and type.
They are very clever and playful dogs.
Make sure that you divide your attention between the two dogs equally and have seperate dishes for them.
Good luck

Frankly it's not about what breed you get, it's about what training you do with your boxer. If he's territorial of his toys, it won't matter if you bring in a rottweiler or a mini poodle.
You need to work with teaching your dog not to be territorial of his toys. I'd suggest working with him on that before getting another dog. Check out the National Geographic Channel show, Dog Whisper, or read some on www.dogpsychologycenter.com.

I have a Smooth Fox Terrier mix with Chuahihuahia or please excuse the spelling.
WHen we first got her, she was the only pet for about three days when we got her brother.
Now she is the only dog since all the stray dogs have left and we brought my Lab from my Grandmaws there and Ginger, the dog was absoultley mean to the lab! It was pathetic she was so mean!
So, you need to teach your boxer even though they are wonderful dogs they still need training, so I think the best dog would be a Boston Terrier. My grandparents have two, and when we brought Zoey the lab to there house they soon got used to her.
Thats my opion, but if you need some info. on the boston terriers feel free to msg. me :)
good luck!

it may be a bad idea to introduce a small breed dog to a jealous boxer.....when you say that he doesnt like other dogs around you..does he just act different or does he actually try to fight with them..he could really do damage to a small dog...it is something that you should really think about...if you do get a small breed puppy though..maltipoos are very very cute and loving dogs..but they are high maintenance..

Well every large dogs are different but I think its not good idea becuse if you buy a small dog it will be her toy and small dogs when there are puppy you need to be becarefull with it..You have to see how your boxer reacts with small dogs...And if you decide to get one I think a rat terrier or a yorky...

i have a boston terrier and they have a great attitude!
(better than min.shcnauzers id say shes the best dog ive ever had)
a boston is small but not so small that your boxer would chomp on it
and they kind of have the same facial structure
a boxer and boston would look very cute together!
