With a 10 megapixel camera or with old fashioned 35mm film, you can get a 2 page print with great detail.
If you want to print bigger than that with fantastic detail, you're looking at expensive medium format cameras, or even large format cameras.

I see two requirements here:
1. Big Printout
2. Picture Quality

So let us take picture quality first. Part of the answer about picture quality will be dealt with in the large size of picture - the part about distortion on zooming in. The other part of picture quality is to do with lenses. You need to buy the correct lenses for the picture you will take. There is no lens to cover all possibilities.

So what size of picture do you want to print out? Let us say you want to do a 16" by 20" print.

Assume a 300dpi fr good quality. That will give you an image size of 4800 px by 6000 px. The megapix is derived from the product of these two figures. And that comes to a whopping 30 megapix! That is a lot of $$$$$ If you have a large image like this, there is more image to zoom into and you will not get pixalation.

Like one of the persons mentioned, you will most likely need to go to medium format. Again prepare to spend $$$$$.

You want a 10 megapixel camera. The best fixed lens 10 megapixel digital camera is the Sony DSC-R1. The best entry level digital SLR in 10 megapixels is the new Canon Digital Rebel XTi (also known as the EOS 400D).

Of those two cameras, the Canon takes better prints, particularly in low light and/or high ISO settings (ie you are taking pictures of moving objects), However, the Sony is extremely easy to use.

If you decide to buy the Canon, don't get the kit lens. Instead, purchase the camera as the body only and invest in a better lens separately:
