Why bother looking for proof? Why bother asking for it? Why insist that you require it?
When I "lose" my keys, I don't bother searching places where I know they could not possibly be. When someone tells me to look under my bed, I say, "NO! They are not there." But I don't tell anyone that they are ignorant for thinking they might possibly be under the bed. At their house, keys might go under the bed; just not at mine.
If I searched under the bed, that would mean that I doubt myself.

What does it feel like to search for something, knowing that it could never be found?

If the question doesn't apply to you, then don't answer it UNLESS you have some insight that would goes along with what is being asked.
Jeesus Frickin' Christ!
Answering "[I'm] not looking..." only indicates that you do not read and understand English.

Good try, but not the best analogy. You already have knowledge of the existence of the "lost keys". As for god, those who are searching, as in the atheists you mentioned, do not have the same advantage. Personally, I gave up searching long ago and am much happier. However, should someone have a bit of proof to show me, I'll take a look at it.

I'm not really looking for any proof. I know none is out there.

I do ask religious people for evidence of their god when they bring up the subject. It is a socratic way of teaching them. If you ask them questions, they have to think of an answer. This makes them think about what their own beliefs really are.

That gives them a better idea of what I think about the subject. Also, I learn more about why people believe things. I do find it interesting how people come to believe things.

I probably wouldn't care as much about what other people believe. They would be like the car keys in your example. However, when laws are made based on superstition, that affects me.

Because most Christians who preach about God state it as a fact. Its not. Without proof, physical proof then God is just a theory, like evolution.
When you state something as fact you should be able to back it up. So thats why atheists ask for proof. You got no proof/ Then stop talking as God as a fact instead of a theory.

Youre an idiot. Since when have I beeen "searching for proof" of your God?? I dont need to search for something that I know doesnt exist. This is about the lamest thing Ive heard - today anyways....

The better question is, What does it feel like to beleive in something so patently false?

First of all you're comparing god to keys? Second, you answered your own question. "What does it feel like to search for something, knowing that it could never be found?" KNOWING THAT IT COULD NEVER BE FOUND!! If you know it can never be found then why bother searching for it. If you came to my house and I told you that you have to help me look for my keys, but then I told you that I don't even own keys, would you continue searching? Thats exactly how atheists feel. They ask for proof because they know no religious individual can provide it, its their way of disproving god.

I don't think Atheists are searching for anything. I think they want you to provide some reason for holding a belief that causes an impact on their lives on a daily basis.

In the car key situation, for example, you neglected to say that your friend insists that your children be taught they are under the bed, wears a copy of them around her neck, and only votes for people who share her belief that they are under the bed.

I'm not seeking proof, I'm seeking converts. I'm an evangelistic agnostic, and I have converted 2 Christians and 1 Muslim so far this month. Have a nice day.

It is less that Atheists are actively looking for proof of god, it is more that, when confronted by a believer who wants to convert them, the best way to get them to back off is to say "prove it."

I ask for proof, because I want people to realize they have none to give. I want them to think for themself, "Well, if I can't prove this... why am I even believing it in the first place?"
