The analysis found HAR1 is similar in all mammals except humans, the researchers said. There were only two differences in “letters” of the gene between the chicken and chimp genomes, but 18 differences between chimps and humans.

That’s an incredible amount of change to have happened in a few million years.

A monkey only has two genetic differences from being a chicken but eighteen differences from being human. It's hard to imagine a chicken being like a monkey yet they are basically the same thing on the genitec level and humans aren't anywhere near a monkey using the same comparison.

Seems like all living things are related but humans are so vastly different, what makes us so different?

Dude, the analysis youre reading is in reference to ONE GENE - HAR1....not the entire genome.

Humans and chimps DNA are 98% similar. Just because one gene shows a large difference doesnt mean that they are not closely related....

(1) Chimps are not monkeys.

(2) That's only one gene.

that's not overall, they are talking about one certain part of the genome that has the differences,
overall we are closer to chimps.
