I had the same thing. Repairs depend on the age and current value after depreciation. If the current value is less than £75 ($120) then its time to scout around the second hand shops(if you are what we call a bit short) or Currys do a new one for £169.00. A reasonable size. Its the compressor that has started leaking its gasses into the ozone and destroying it. Thanks mate. You've reduced the life of the planet but don't let that bother you too much. Get an Eco-friendly unit for twice as much if you want tom pay back.

Have you emptied the tray at the bottom?
Is there any 'bad' food in there?
If you know that there is none of the above, then I suggest you a man out! Or buy a new one, you a get a really energy efficient one for under £300 these days and that will come with a warranty too!

Sound like you've been scraping ice off with a sharp instrument and punctured a tube somewhere? The smell is freon gas escaping, I'ts a gonner I'm afraid. Cheaper to replace than repair.Check your insurance cover.

It's broken. Ask if your next door neighbour would mind storing your frozen stuff in their freezer, and buy a new one tomorrow.

The smell is because its losing gas so its probably goofed and it would be cheaper to buy a new one than to get it fixed

It could be anything - bad thermostat, compressor, start relay, etc.
Check the obvious - loose wires and stuff.
Call a repairman.
