If you claim it as a charitable deduction it is pretax money.

In my family my church gets above and beyond the given 10% from us so our base or "weekly" tithe isn't relevant. It is my opinion that 10% should only be a starting point from which to base your offerings. We not only give monetarily but we volunteer and offer our services over and over for the glory of God, and that is important to our church and everyone involved. Prayers =)

Why should any Church get your hard earned money? Give your offerings to the sick, poor and needy. It takes little effort to find people in need in your own area. Would your particular deity get pissed if you showed up on Tuesday in a seclude spot to worship? Or does your God require large buildings and groups of people shelling out dollars to be happy? Most churches require 10% of the gross, it's the larger amount.

This is a fantastic question! I don't go to church. I worship in spirit and in truth, so there's no before or after tax about it. The government hasn't figured out how to calculate and tax love yet! I can't wait to see what other answers you get!

Right now they don't get 1% because we're struggling financially. They do get free graphic design work and the use of my muscle on Sunday morning. We're a mobile church. We don't own the building we meet in.

Wow! So many gullible people in one place.
I think I'll write a nonsense book about a pretend being and tell you all that he demands you give 10% of your money to me.
Are you with me brothers? Halllelujah!

Technically you should only give 10% of your money after all taxes, shelter, food, clothing, and other costs for living but remember, this means necessities only not your alcohol money or cigarettes.

The Church gets however much you choose to give. 10% is one tenth, which is the meaning of "tithe". It is up to you to decide what is your obligation to God and your church.
Our church suggests giving time and talent if you can't give money.
