Siberian huskies tend to RUN away - period! When I worked for vets, we had more people lose or find Huskies and Beagles than all other breeds combined. Run is the key word - it is instinct. They are great escape artists, and the best way to keep them safe when outside is in a kennel run with a cement pad & a secure top. They will dig under & climb over fences to get out & run. If you or someone in your family jogs, take the dog to help get this urge met. Skijoring is a fun winter sport with dogs, also - if you get snow. If not, you can modify & do it on rollerblades. Good luck!

All huskies run and it doesn't matter how much you "train" them, they will run if the urge hits them bad enough.
Standard sized huskies are wonderful dogs but should never be trusted off leash in an area that isn't fully enclosed by a fence at least 6 ft high. They can travel many many miles in a short time and they were bred to be this way.
Both females and males will roam.

All huskies are very unreliabe off leash. I have two and we have chased them many of times because as soon as they see an open door they are gone. They are very indepndent dogs, and think about it, they were bred to pull sleds and RUN and RUN they shall. Being unneutered doesn't help either because he will go looking for females in heat. Unless you plan on breeding definatly consider getting him fixed. It will also reduce the risk of health problems later. Never let him off leash or in a yard with a fence that can be easily jumped and they can jump pretty high. Do more reseach on breeds before buying next time. They are great dogs and I wouldn't own any other breed but they do need a good responsible owner.

Huskies are runners! I knew a couple of Huskies that would climb the brick wall out of their owners' backyard and run the neighborhood. They learned how to use the corner of the wall to climb up and get out since it was too high to jump. But ALL dogs should be kept in a safe enclosure or monitored at all times while outside. Any dog can figure out how to dig out or jump the fence to get out and run. I usually don't recommend keeping dog outside no matter what breed. My dogs stay inside in a kennel (or out depending on how well behaved they are) when I am not home.

Huskies are active dogs, they need room to play, and stimulation. They also like to chase things ( IE squirrels) They also need a tall fence. A husky could sneeze and jump your average 4-5 foot fence. If they are going to be put outside for a long period of time, they need a tall fence or run or kennel..

ANY dog (male or female, any breed) can run away if they have too short of a fence, or aren't properly trained or cared for.

Huslies are bred to pull a sled all day and sleep out in the sonw at night. They are escape artists. There is not much that they can not go over or under or through to get out to run. They live to run.
I had one for about two years and we never could keep him in the yard. He was neutered and still oved to run.

One of my friends used to have a Husky that used to jump a 6 foot fence to roam around. He was fixed too. Otherwise I don't know.

Are you unaware that Huskies are runners???? And if it is an intact male, that adds to the problem.
If you find him, neuter, train, and become a more responsible dog owner!!!

It depends how you train them. If you train them to listen to all your commands and they know you are the master and they know you provide them everything, they most likely wont run away. Its for every dog.
