PERSONALLY I THINK Lol..is a bit artificial....it does'nt reflect truely one's feelings...BUT WEN WE WRITE HAHAHAHA....THAT GIVES AN IDEA TO THE READER THAT OTHER IS SMILING OR LAUGHING AND HAVING FUN....

Whenever I choose hahaha my cousin tells me to stop b/c she thinks it sounds like as if a guy is laughing...so she tells me to choose hihihihihi (which is basically giggling like a girl) I choose lol when it's something not too hilarious but still a little funny. And hahahaha or rofl when I have to laugh really hard.

If typing in english, I use lol. If typing in spanish, I choose either:
jajaja (belly laugh)
jejeje (evil or perverted laugh)
jijiji (giggle or embarrassed laugh)
remembering, of course, that the letter j in spanish is pronounced like the english letter h.

When it is someone I know online I type hahahaha. When it's in a question I type LOL. It seems less personal.

"lolololol.." shows excitement and I think "hahaha.." can look more false, personally.
If you put an a before the "haha" it's not so bad. As in - "ahahahahahaha"
It shows that it's more uncontrolled. More fun.
"Hahaha.." looks a bit manic.
