I think Maya Angelou said it best:
When I say "I am a Christian"
I am not shouting "I'm clean livin"
I'm whispering "I was lost"
Now I'm found and forgiven
When i say.." I am a Christian"
I dont speak of this with pride
I am confessing that I stumble
And need Christ to be my guide.
When I say.." I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I am weak.
And need His strength to carry on.
When I say.. "I am a Christian"
I am not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed.
And need God to clean my mess.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.
When I say..."I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain,
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon his Name
When I say ..."I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow!

Christians are not that naive to believe they are perfect. Christian perfection is unattainable, and I don't believe we are expected to be perfect. Non-believers, for some or other reason, think and expect a lot of crazy things of Christians, but make no attempt themselves to follow Christian lives. Strange world. Go well, and God Bless!

c8181,
As a Christian I find that I will be called a hypocrite no matter WHAT I say. So f' um. I will not pretend to be perfect for an Atheist, nor will I try to be perfect for a Christian. To me, THAT'S a bad witness. I am not perfect, God knows it, and I will not try to fool anyone else.
I cannot claim to be the best Christian I can be, either. My eyes are on Christ. Everything else is unimportant. That's the perspectiove I think that I should have. It keeps my stupid idiot SELF out of the way.

Perfection (like Jesus) is something all Christians should strive towards.
Attainable in this life? Not a chance.
But it's still a worthwhile goal while we're here.

As humans we will never be perfect due to original sin, but we are to do the very best that we can in order to live as Jesus instructed.
The Bible says that we all fall short of God's glory, but through Jesus we are saved.
ROMANS 3:23-25
23 for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God

like you said we are not perfects but we need to be more like Jesus. In the world that we are living now is really hard but we must try not to let the devil get the best of us.

No, I think Christians are suppose to be followers of Christ and live by His example. But we are not God so we will never achieve perfection. NOR should we strive to as it is not the goal.

Only Jesus Christ was/is perfect! It only makes you an hypocrite if you go around acting like you're better than others. It's what's in your heart.

If Christians were supposed to be perfect then Christ would not have had to die for the sins of humans.
Religions would not have Confessions because there would be nothing to confess.
No one is perfect or expected to be. Once you understand you are not perfect you are one step closer to perfection.

No unbeliever that I know expects you people to be perfect. What most of us do expect is for you to either do as you preach, or else preach what you do. I mean, if you cannot help sinning, don't pretend for humanity NOT to sin. What's annoying and hypocritical is to claim something and do something else.
In other words, if you are asking for consideration for your imperfection, why doesn't your discourse account for other people's imperfection, too? (And I mean "your", to include all Christians, not just yourself).
