I am looking for a personal story of someone who was homeless and how they got off the streets. I want to distribute the story along with a bag of food to help encourage and modivate homeless people. Advice is also appreciated.

I was born of chaos and grew up to live under a bridge by the age of 18. I hated my life and came to hate people in general. I didn't trust anyone and eventually saw all people as suspiciously self-serving and blatantly deceptive. I was miserable. I ended up in prison. In prison, I met a chaplain who also wanted something from me, my salvation. It took a very long time and daily reading of the Bible before I finally understood that I had been lied to my entire life. God is alive, Jesus Christ is the Savior, I am loved by God, and the choice was not my past... it was the future... and it was mine. My life is prosperous in so many more ways than I would have dreamed of under that bridge at 18. God is with me always. I am never alone. I am loved unconditionally. Most of all, I am forgiven. I belong to a family of forgiven who never let me down, never judge me, never are far from me. The world may present struggles, but they are no longer overwhelming or insurmountable.

Kudos to you. I think that sounds like a great idea!!!

A few things to be weary of. Many (NOT ALL, but many) are homeless not from lack of motivation or opportunity. Many are homeless because of either mental/emotional problems that make it difficult if not impossible to support themselves, or they have a dependency issue that has taken priority over everything in their lives...even shelter.

Perhaps a bit of inspiration could do some good. If not, at least you fed them for a day and made it a little brighter.

What city are you planning to do this in?

I love your heart! God bless you!

I work in a rehabilitation centre with recovering addicts, some of whom have been on the streets. I will ask one of them to write down their story, so that I can pass it on to you.
