Ok here is the answer you are looking for .Cat`s dont drink h2o like they should -so they need more h2o the way they can get it is by wet cat food ,now in saying this they all so need dry cat food for the fact -that there teeth are sharp and the dry food keeps them filed down ..So what to do you should feed them 1 sm can of wet food in the am ,than put a bowl of dry for all day (just a small bit ) than 1/2 a can at night . Hope this helps you out... PS if they are male cats the dry food should be for URENARY TRACK

Wet cat food is much better than dry food on a regular basis and will not give them the runs unless you give them cheap stuff. they should get wet food for breakfast and dinner and dry food here and there throughout the day. If you constantly leave dry food out or have an automatic feeder your cat will DEFINITELY become overweight. So give your cat a mix of both... but mainly wet food.

Just about everybody here needs to read Jean Hovfe's article titled "Does Dry Food Clean the Teeth?". That's available at www.littlebigcat.com.
That's been veterinary opinion for quite a while and now they are starting to do an about-face on it. Good teeth are a genetic inheritance as one with "marshmallow" teeth can attest to (my brother had the same dental problems as I). Some of my cats need yearly dental cleanings, one has never had to have her teeth cleaned (she's 13) and another usually every two years rather than every year. They all eat the same food.

I give my kitten dry and wet food. :) It depends on what you are giving the cat. I usually add a bit moisture to the food that is really hard and looks as if it can dehydrate, and then keep some things dry so the kitten can work its teeth.
I don't think that there is actually a negative/positive effect for dry/wet. Cat food was originally made to be dry, so feed it dry. However, make sure to give the cat milk (traditional, yes, but very healthy!) and water.

Wet!
Wet, wet, wet!!!
Dry food is not good for cats! Read this and learn why:
http://www.catinfo.org
This is not what you'll hear from many people, including many vets. That's because most people, including vets, are not veterinary nutritionists. Like MDs, vets get very little information about nutrition in medical school, and even less about the very unique needs of cats. The vet who created the catinfo site studied the scientific literature to learn all the stuff she didn't get in vet school, and when she found that her colleagues who went to other schools hadn't learned any of this either, she started the site to spread the word.
Don't worry that the information comes from the scientific literature. Dr. Lisa has done a fantastic job of "translating" it into common English that regular people who aren't doctors or scientists can understand.

i keep dry cat food out for them to eat whenever they want but my two older cats get wet catfood twice a day.. they are healthy. I dont think it really matters. Its more what your cat prefers then anything else.. My cats dont get the runs from wet cat food and the other cats that eat the dry food dont seem dehydrated.

I feed dry and give them wet occasionally, because the moisture is good for them. But I feed a very high quality dry food (Natural Balance) and my cats are very good about drinking a lot of water. I recommend free feeding them a high quality dry food (it's good for their teeth as well) and also supplementing that with a high quality wet food (Wellness, Merrick's).

My vet told my husband and me that wet food and dry food are made out of exactly the same things. It's just the form that is different. He said we should pay close attention to what our cat responds to and build the diet around that.

I feed my cats both. For there normal/regular food, they get a half and half mixture of Hill Science Diet and Iams, that way they get the good nutrients of Hill Science Diet, but it doesn't cost as much. Then they get a half a can of canned cat food a day to share, I have 2 cats. And they absolutely love it. That way they get the bennifits of both wet and dry. but if you want the best for your cat, go to the vet or call the vet and ask them about it. Ask them what you should be feeding your cat, how much and of what type. That way the cats diet will be tailored to him. the only reason wet food will get the cat a loose stoll is because the cat is not used to eating the food. My cats did that when they first got canned food, but about a week after that, there body became used to it and it doesn't happen anymore. And NEVER give your cat cows milk, its bad for them. very bad, it will hurt their stomach and make them very sick.
