My daughter just got married, and was told the Bride's side was on the left.

Typically, in a Christian wedding, the bride stands on the left, the groom on the right, as they face the person performing the ceremony.

Traditionally, dating back to medieval times, the woman would stand the left side of the groom (if facing the alter) because most men wore thier swords on thier right side and wanted to have easy access to them if they had to defend thier bride.
However, that is for a christian wedding, jewish weddings, the bride/ her guests are on the right.

All the weddings that I have been in or to the bride stands on the left. But I guess that it all depends on the religion.

Unless you're Jewish, then I believe it's the opposite.

If you are a guest sitting behind the bride and groom, she'll be on the left. If you are the minister performing the wedding, she'll be on your right.

That would be stage (alter) right. Or if you are talking from the guests point of view, the bride will be on the left.
