I've heard this phrase compared:
Imagine you're a soldier. You're alone, surrounded, the enemy is closing in. If you're not willing to fight (potentially lose your life), the enemy will destroy you. If you are willing to fight, you have a chance of dying (and at least it's an honorable death, not cowardly), but you also then have a chance of saving your life. So the only way to win is to potentially sacrifice your life...

Exactly as King Reef said, why hold onto to what is in this world, money, fame and glory are NOTHING if you spend your entire LIFE in them of say 100 years. So what? Compared to ETERNITY under Christ's Kingdom when you can live ETERNALLY and enjoy life FOREVER, wasting 100 years on fame, money and glory would be sad, so throw it away and seek out Gods kingdom.
This is also why the Bible says, "the day of your death is better than the day of your birth." Because when your born you do not have a name with God, but when you die, you have proven (one way or another) what your relationship to God will be and if it is good, then you are much better off than at the day of your birth! So, even if life was hell, your life has run its course and your path was run and you now only have the resurrection to look forward to where you will live under Christ's rule FOREVER in peace and security!

I think what Jesus was talking about was that if a person is so focused on their own pleasure they can lose their life spiritually.
But those who shun the things of this world and embrace Christ's teaching will gain their life back spiritually.
What that means is that if a person is so focused on pleasure and personal gain; they are never satisfied and always craving more of the world's pleasures, they are missing the blessings of God.

The correct quote is:
What does the Bible mean "those who love their life will loose it and those who hate their life FOR MY SAKE will gain it"
Building our own lives will bring condemnation.
Giving (dedicating) our lives to Jesus and allowing Him to build them will bring eternal life.

Basically it means don't be selfish and love the nature of the flesh. If the flesh bothers you, and you want to be more like Christ, you're in the right track. That means you hate yourself or your flesh nature. Therefore you'll live

Fragile,
It's a part of being self-sacrificing. A Christian values nothing too much in this world, not even his own family, not even himself. He values God over all things. We know that there is eternity at hand. And truly believe that. Glory to God the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Uh...God is spiteful? Actually, it means that if you love life, it will pass all too quickly (time flies when you're having fun) and if you're a pessimist, it seems like it takes forever.

"Those who love their life will lose it..." Those who come to Christ will care less for the flesh and materiality of their human nature.
"...those who hate their life will gain it..." Those who turn to Christ for guidance on Earth and ascension to eternal life will lose the everyday cares of this life.
