I have 2 pit bulls and 1 german shepard mix, i have had the german shepard mix for about 3 yrs which is a female.. I have had my female pit for about 1/12 yrs and my male pit for about 1 month.
my pit and german shepard never had problems before, they are both females , both had puppies before and were always fine around each other, now,
my german shepard had puppies again about 2 wks ago, and since she had puppies and since we got our male pit , they keep fighting each other, i don't know if it is because of the puppies or if it is because of the new dog, but he doesn't fight, he just watches while they are fighting.
we try to keep them separted as much as we can but sometimes they get together and are just fine with each other but other times they fight
i would like to know what we can do, or maybe what the problem could be,?
if u have ever had this problem before then please tell me your experience and how u solved it?

my holly had pups and everytime max (the male) went near her she groweled at him, they are fine now , i think it just becaue shes tense and trying to protect her babies and with the new dog there it making her more anxious, once the pups are up a bit the mother will chill out

With just the two dogs, there really was no need for a hierarchy. Now that you've added a third - and a male to boot - the females are determined to decide who is the alpha *****. Separating them may only lengthen the amount of time that they need to figure this out, so spend as much time as you can with ALL of them together to let them know that no one gets more attention than the other from you. Definitely keep the puppies separated until they are weaned and gone. Once your german is a "single" again, she shouldn't feel such a strong need to be the one in charge. Ultimately, they will figure it out on their own. Make sure that you do not reinforce this behavior by favoring one over the other though.

Good luck!

My Grandmother raised shepherds for over 40 years, her dogs were great with kids, adults, dogs, and cats. But she had 2 females that would turn into absolute monsters when they had puppies. NO ONE except grandma could come near them, she once had one of the females go through a window trying to protect her puppies.

You may just have to keep them apart until the pups are weaned, or gone to new homes. She isn't used to him yet, and is protective of her pups.

I have a male and a female pit, our female just had puppies in August and she would not let the male around them at all! She was very leary of him all together. She has since gotten over it since the babies are bigger. So I think its just your German Shepaerd being overly protective. She should get over it:)
Good Luck!!

it is in a mommas nature to protect the babies.i think it is about the pups. my sisters dogs are inseparable but when the pups came the momma was absolutely vicious until the pups were big enough to wander, then she let up on her crazy over-protectiveness.

We had to keep all the pups away for all the males.
They killed them last time.
The alpha female is prone to kill pups too, if they are not hers!

Please be careful.
