No, stay away from them...! They do not work..!

i would not take them, if she wants to risk her health by taking these then she would be safer just to stay overweight. Some may be safe but i know of a few what aren't and i think they all work in the same way, i.e. artificially increase the heart rate to speed up metabolism, so you can burn the calories quicker or something like that but i know that such artificial measures can cause cardiomyopathy which is basically heart failure and that is a risk i would not be willing to take to lose a few pounds. Exercise and healthy eating is the safest and best way to go.
Use these with extreme caution. Read the safety leaflets and it's very common to experience rapid heartbeat (palpitations) and like i say best left alone.

Tell your wife that none of the pills work. Exercise is hard, but she'll feel so much better, relieve stress, sleep better, feel better about herself, sooo many benefits. Tell her she can e-mail me if she needs help getting started with a exercise routine. She really does need to stay away from all that stuff.
