Ali - Tyson had more strength and power, but he never would have made contact with Ali in his prime. Ali was just too damn fast. He could duck and dodge 5 or 6 punches in a row, and then BAM! 2 jabs, 2 uppercuts, 2 body shots, and he is dancing around the whole time. He was a joy to watch.

Ah, what I wouldn't give to really watch this fight right now. If that fight ever took place, could you imagine how big it would have been as far as media coverage and box office take?
It'll never happen, of course, unless we all enter the Twilight Zone...
Anyway, it's hard to say. When Mike Tyson was in his prime, he absolutely destroyed his opponents not only with power but with speed. He used incredibly fast hands and feet to deliver his crushing shots.
Muhammad Ali, on the other hand, was the more superior pure boxer, as opposed to being some powerful slugger. He also had a hell of a chin, but could he have taken Tyson's best punch? Some say Ali had great defense, but I'm sorry, he would have had his head taken off if he had tried that rope-a-dope stuff with Tyson.
Now, since Ali beat both George Foreman and Joe Frazier—guys who had Tyson-like power—and Tyson lost to guys who had a good jab and/or were better pure boxers, I'd have to go with Ali beating Tyson by decision.
However, I do think Tyson hurts Ali during the fight, maybe even knocks him down once or twice before Ali goes on to win by a close margin on the scorecards.

I need to type up a "FAQ" somewhere so I can just point the daily "Would Tyson beat Ali/Louis/a grizzly bear" type questions there. I've written at great length about this in the past, so search on the completed questions. If Ali and Tyson fought 10 times in their prime, Ali would win all ten. Ali is arguably the best and certainly one of the top two heavyweights ever. Tyson doesn't even make the top ten. Ali was *never* knocked out until Larry Holmes did it well after he should have retired. Ali fought arguably the best level of competition in the history of the sport. Tyson at his best--most people consider that to be the Michael Spinks fight--couldn't beat Ali at *any* point of his pre Leon Spinks career. I've always had a soft spot for Tyson and would actually say I'm a fan of his--but I'm also knowledgable about boxing history and his place in it. Ali beats Tyson every time, and Tyson wouldn't even make the top 5 of Ali's toughest opponents....

Ali, better heart, better character, better chin, faster hands, faster feet, better ring generalship, master of fight psychology, better endurance, better ring savvy, fought better competition by a mile, underestimated in the power dept. Need I say more? My apologies no offense but I've answered this question a few too many times in this forum to rehash the fantasy fight scenario. Result, Ali TKO round 12. I quite frankly don't think Tyson could have beaten Frazier, Foreman or Liston in their prime. Tyson's greatest victory was against a blown up Mike Spinks. No offense to Spinks who was one of the greatest Light Heavyweights ever. I hope you see where I'm going with this, look at the quality of each fighter's opponents and the answer is self evident .

Ali would have danced and jabbed Tyson confusing him and tying him up at close quarters and would win a relatively easy decision. If you think about it, who did Mike ever beat that was that great? He did beat scared blown up Lgt heavyweight M Spinks and washed up Larry Holmes but got man handled by Douglas and Holyfield while Ali fought and beat much tougher competition. The people that Tyson beat were not all that good in my opinion.

It doesn't matter if Ali faces Pre Buster Douglas Mike Tyson, he'd beat him. He's not on his league.

Tyson. Ali had more art to him. But in his earliest days as champ, Tyson was an animal. He could just pound his way through any defence. Ali would have lasted 4 rounds at most. TODAY'S Tyson, well, I think if George Foreman trained up a bit, he could step in and beat him.
