i am 18 going to be 19 and just got married it was a spur of the moment thing i went with my bf of 2 months to vegas with some friends and at some point one of his friends said we were like a married couple and my bf just turned around and said why not get married right now and then we kind of did. This was a joke that was taken way too far. If you get married by Elvis in Vegas at a white chapel is it still legal when you get back to NJ?This happened a month ago and we are still really in love but after this we pretended like nothing happened. My parents cant stand him because he is 21 and italian not spanish like they wanted and his parents dont really like me because i am spanish and they want him to date Italian girls. We told them we were engaged after the trip to Vegas. Should i tell my parents what happened?I live with them and commute to school.

Its only legal if you actually got a marriage license there.

do you have a marriage license? if you have a marriage license and you are 18+ then you are legally married. if you did not consummate the marriage(have sex on the wedding night) then you can get the marriage annulled. you need to tell the truth to your parents. here is what you do... you make a great home cooked meal(if you cannot cook I then suggest take out), then over diner explain the whole truth about what happened. tell them you did not realize the ramifications of what was going on and that you felt pressured by the moment, and though that it would mean nothing. and now that you realize what you have done you need support and advice. that you are an adult and adults make mistakes, and you need them to be your friend and parent. that you are owning up to your mistake, just need help figuring out what to do now. after that you need to talk to your husband, and ask him what he would like to do. cause if you consummate the marriage then you may have a Little bun in the oven(baby). be honest with yourself! what is it you really want and what is it that he really wants. hope that this helped.

If you signed papers,he was a real justice of the peace, judge or another licensed individual then yes it's a legal marriage.Being that you're in Jersey it's entirely likely that you could just have the marriage annulled.I know most of the states I've lived in you can have a marriage annuled after one year.It will appear on racord that you've never been married and you do not have to get a divorce.I just moved to Jersey so I don't know for sure but I know the NY laws dictate this.Call an attorney and speak to a paralegal if you're unsure. They will not charge you for this information if they have it.

Yeah, it's legal.

If you plan to stay married, then you need to tell your parents. Don't be surprised if they expect you and your husband to live as a married couple (out of their house, of course)

If you really do not want to be married, you can have the marriage annulled. You will need to contact an attorney about that, or call your local courthouse and ask what needs to be done.

You are an adult, so whether or not you tell your parents is your decision. You are old enough to get yourself out of the mess you got into. You can then tell them years later, when it is well behind you, or never at all (although these things tend to come out into the open over time).

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure your marriage is legal in other states. If you really don't want to be married, the two of you can always get an annullment, start college, and then if the two of you are still in love, get married when you are ready to and have spoken with your families about it.

Yes, it is still a legal marriage. If you love him and wanted to marry him, be happy. Marriage is hard work and I hope you understand that. If you feel you two made a mistake, talk to him.
Lies are not the way to begin a marriage, especially not to your families. You two may be too young to understand the big decision you made. Talk to each other and your family about how you feel and they can help you come up with a solution. You are legally married and you will need help if you want this undone.
Come clean, you will be glad you did.

You are married legally everywhere in the USA. and probably the world. If you don't want to be married you can check into getting an annulment. If you can't get an annulment you can get a divorce. What you did was not smart. Marriage is not a game. You should both tell your parents.

Have the marriage anulled. It is legal if you signed a marriage license and marriage certificate, which I'm sure they have you do at the chapel. An anullment isn't the same as a divorce, it's like the marriage never happened. In order to do this you are probably going to need a lawyer's help, and unless you have the money for that, you're going to have to ask your parents for help.

Your first course of action should be to take a test to see if you are pregnant. You should then talk to an older adult that you trust who can help you seek legal advice about getting the marriage annulled. If you are sure you want out, once you have sought the legal council take the necessary course of action.

As I understand it, Vegas weddings are among the easiest to aquire an annullment for. I'd tell your parents....they might not be incredibly happy with you, but they're sure to do what they can to help you out of it. I'm not sure if it was my daughter I wouldn't take the "you made your bed, now you lay in it" approach...but I'd still love her and do what I could.

You need to tell them. You are an adult and marriage is legal in all states....it doesn't matter where it takes place. If you were under the age of 18 it would not be legal.
