It's winter, so probably some jeans, sweaters and coat, hat, scarf and gloves and most important boots or shoes you can walk in winter conditions.

New York is very cold and wet in January/February. Bring a warm coat, and plenty of sweaters and thick socks. Also bring at least one pair of good boots, preferably flats with rubber soles and waterproof because it can get very rainy in NY. However, I would recommend wearing clothes in layers. Nearly everywhere indoors will be warm, especially in the subway, especially if you go out drinking at bars - it will get hot. So you want to be able to strip down to a light shirt or turtleneck.

It doesn't really snow that much, and even when it does, it gets pretty wet and slushy within a half a day in Manhattan. Just bring some good boots to wear, that you won't slip and slide in, to wear in case it rains or snows. I also recommend scarves, mittens, and a hat - it gets very, very windy and the wind chill is a lot colder than the actual temperature outside.

I'm not sure about New York but England in Jan/Feb is freezing cold so I suggest lots of layers and a big puffy coat, scarf, gloves, hat etc. Have a great trip!

Contrary to what some will tell you snow is quite rare in London - it is much more likely to rain. It will be colder than you have experienced in Florida but not "freezing" so wear a pully under your coat but you need not think that you are traveling to the arctic.

It will be cold and damp in England.. brrr.. and in New York it will be cold and snowy.. you need hat and scarf and gloves and boots, get a nice gortex jacket down filled. wear layers, like thermal under shirt with tee shirt or shirt.. and a sweater.. that way if you get hot you can remove a layer.
England will be awful that time of year.. lots of rain

Snow can be messy, especially in the city where it tends to melt and get slushy. Jeans, a warm jacket, hat, gloves and waterproof shoes or boots is all you need.

Have a great time. You're heading to two GREAT cities!
