Talk to your six year old and discuss what the snakes are doing, then get him a plastic snake to play and talk with, discussing the role the snake plays, having established that the snakes can be played with get him to do role play with the snake give them give different voices and having fun with them. Have him do various role plays with other funny animals and include the snake as a fun item. Once he has played with the animals on and of then you should introduce him to a zoo and a specialist, but hopefully he will treat them as friends and slowly disregard or imagining them. I hope this works.

This movie was rated R.
Why do you think they have ratings? There are child psychologists that measure the effect of the movie on a young child's brain and this is why it is happening.
It is for 17 year olds and up. A 6 year old is usually not mentally capable of watching it with no effects.
Your son has the effects and there is nothing you can do but not let him watch rated R movies and tell the parents of his friends not to let him watch the movie even if his friend is.

Give your friend a harsh telling off, I'm 36 and had a horrible dream about snakes the other night, so god knows what it must be like for a six year old.
Get him a toy snake or something like that so he can put it next to his bed at night for a bit, so that he knows they won't harm him.
Why don't people realise, that films don't have age limits on them for nothing. In my case their should be a Great Great Grandparents Guidance. lol
All the best.

We had the same problem with Harry Potter's werewolf. (His dad's brilliant parenting decision there) I may have the parent police knocking on my door...but I kept watching it with him. Explaining how it was a disease, how far Hogwarts is from home, how werewolves aren't real, etc.
If that isn't a comfortable option for you, find out if your local reptile shop(zoo) has a hands on exhibit of snakes. It may take a TON of convincing to get him to go. But once he finds out the facts (and sees how gentle these handled snakes are) he may ease up on the anxiety.
It's hard nowadays, but blocking these kinds of movies is the best defense. I've learned (the hard way) to keep stricter parental control on what he sees.
Good luck with this, I know how hard it is.
love,
Ang

In the long run he is just 6 and he will stop having nightmares about it soon. At his age I went through a phase of waking up thinking there was an earthquake happening (after a schoolfriend showed me a bump in the playground and told me it was an earthquake) and another one of thinking the bottom of my bed was on fire (don't know why).
I do agree that you neeed to speak to the parents of his friend, or if you can't face that, not let him play round at their house. If they then ask why you've stopped him going round it gives you an in to have the conversation. Be prepared for them to act as though your just mollycoddling him. They can ruin their own child but don't let them ruin yours.

Keep reassuring him, that it was just a movie. Show him a fun movie that he can relate to and understand the difference.
Then go to the person that let a 6 year old watch that movie without your permission & give them the a piece of your mind. Make them appoligize to your son.

When I was three, I watched Jurassic Park for first time and I had the same problem.
Now I am sixteen and I have learnt that things on television are puppets so they can't hurt me. I'd tell your son that if he takes his mind off the snakes, they won't hurt him.

It won't help your current situation, however you should question whether your son should be allowed to go to peoples houses who allow this to happen...and god knows what else. Also you should speak to the parents as no doubt they have a 6yr old equally scared, and set some ground rules if you allow your son to continue to go to this house.....anyway you should have thought of all this in the first place, that's responsible parenting!!!1

When my mom helped me with my bad dreams she would tell me that the angels in heaven would come down and the bad monsters would go away as the angels told them SHHHHHH she is sleeping you have to go as they would poof disappear and tell him that before he goes to bed to stomp out the bad dreams and when is stomping the bad dreams will go away for he got rid of them and I would yell at the person that had your son watch this movie w/out your parental permission this was wrong not on your part but on their part good luck may your little one has sweet dreams soon
