There is always some danger from eating raw meats due to the danger of bacterial infection. But you can get these infections from dirty knives, cutting boards etc. There are several types of sushi that contain no raw seafood so you can stick to those if you wish. Frankly you run a risk any time you eat anything raw--even salad! I have found that most Japanese restaurants that serve fish are so clean and the fish is so fresh you have very little to worry about. The cutting methods they use would expose a parasite such as a tapeworm so I think that they are the least of your worries! I have never heard of tapeworms from fish, only land animals and dirt etc!

Don't worry about getting tapeworms from sushi. The food standards for sushi are VERY stringent. You have a better chance getting E.coli from a rare steak than you do of getting anything bad from sushi.

like any food, you have to properly prepare it to know that it is safe. you run the risk of eating unsafe foods, no matter what type it is if you are not preparing it properly.
