Go buy a high protein puppy food and feed it small portions several times per day. Since the pup is malnourished you do not want to over feed right away as its digestive system is not use to haveing food in it, and this can cause you some more problems.
Since the pup is malnourished go to your local farm supply and buy a powder called bounce back, this will put the electrolytes back into the pup. This mixture nixes with water so all it has to do is drink it. I have used this and it works really well.
Do not worry about getting the pups shots right away as you have to get the pups immune system up first. As soon as your pup has put on weight and acting healthy you need to start vaccinations. YOU DO need to get the pup wormed as this may have a factor in it being skinny.

Probably a stolen puppy too young to leave its mother. Go to a pet shop buy some puppy milk mix it up with slightly warm water put it in a puppy nursing bottle. Wrap a warm blanket around it hold it when you feed it cuddle it. Also take it to a vet it may be sick or need shots vaccinations etc. Young puppies from not well cared for environments often get very sick or have contracted soemthing like parvo which is often fatal. Next time go see the parents and the conditions before you buy a dog and do not buy from a crack head.

First of all, like the others, get a vet check, vaccinations, and worming.
Then, go to the frozen food section and get some "Bil-jac" dog food. That will pack on the good weight - muscle and not fat. Add in some cottage cheese and an egg to each meal. You can also add in some fresh, raw chicken or beef. This will help with the amino acids. To a google search on BARF diets or raw foods for dogs.
Make sure when you are putting the weight on, you give the puppy lots of exercise. They are too young to start "road work" - in other words - jogging with you - until they are about 16-18months. Otherwise, the bones and joints are not set yet. A good romp and play with a ball or frisbee with you would be good. This will help the weight from going to fat and will develop muscle.
Be good and gentle with him. If he was in a bad situation, he needs time to adjust to you and get over any trama he had in his past. As soon as he is settled in good, go ahead and enroll him in obedience classes so he is listening to you and following simple commands.
Have fun with your new puppy. Pits are wonderful dogs with great personalities. Please be a good pet owner and not just one who got him for a status symbol!!

1. Take the dog to the vet!!!
2. Do not overfeed the dog. I am guessing that this dog is very young and if it is being fed the wrong diet (not puppy food, in need of formula) its digestive tract is all ut of whack anyways - don't mess it up anymore by feeding it too much.
3. This dog obviously had a rough life to begin with, make sure to give her love, attention and proper training. Dogs are loyal and they should be given the same in return.
Good luck to you on your humanitarian efforts.

Take it to the vet first, then get Beneful dry puppy food. It seems the have the best results on my rescued pits for adding weight once no other reason is determined for it being skinny due to health reasons.

My aunt who raises am staffs bought a pup off a drug addict once, to give the pup a chance. You need to take the pup to a vet to make sure he doesn't have worms, parvo, or distemper. Your vet will give you some tips to fatten the puppy up. My aunts vet recommend a rich wet food (cant think of the brand now...) to help put more calories into the puppy.
How old is the puppy?

I'd start with feeding it wet food mixed with dry food. A vet visit couldn't hurt. Just remember one thing: love that pit, treat him good and he will be loyal forever. I've got a pit/bloodhound mix(90lbs) and he's the best dog I've ever known. Good luck.

LMAO!!!! HAHHAHAHA! That's funny! Umm... it's sad that the crack head has the puppy to begin with. Take it to the vet... it might be sick. Also, you didn't say how old the puppy is, you might have to keep it on forumla for puppies. It's just safer to see a vet for info on this.
