I've found that my kids behave much better, ever since I started pulling out my shotgun, pointing it at them and threatening to kill them when they misbehave. Of course, I love my kids, I'd never actually kill them - but they don't know that. Has anyone else had success with this technique?

It bothers me that there are people in this forum who just might be dumb enough to take this seriously. If I start seeing headlines about kids accidentally shot to death by parents, I'm blaming you.

ok... I am NOT saying that your technique is right, because I would not do it that way. But, atleast you care enough about your kids to discipline them.... I have found that spanking is usually an adequate form of punishment (and of course there are prople who are going to say that spanking is extreme, and should never be done) to resolve most more severe issues that you encounter. Typically what I have seen is with the lesser severe punishments, the children are not afraid of their parents, so they will misbehave, and the parents will have trouble being boss.

But I would definately say that pointing a gun at a child is not good parenting. You are supposed to teach children gun safety, and this is definately not it.

Are you kidding me HELL NO this isn't normal and id bet you that if you keep this up some day you' ll live to regret this totally poor choice of parenting, kids pick up on things that we do and say,and if you ever listen in on them you'd be amazed at what they have learned from you and its really sad that more parents dont parent if they did there wouldn't be so many delinquents, what if they decide that this is normal behavior threaten kids at school, check your parenting skills because they are very flaud!!

What? No! The only reason they listen to you is because they think they will die! You have to get them to behave on their own, and not because they think their dad would kill them. Also, just because you say you love them, doesn't mean they know that. You need help.

Of course they behave better, they're scared to death!!! You need counseling, and to get that gun out of the house, or at least it better be locked up where your kids can't get at it. and you need to learn how to discipline your kids without emotionally damaging them. Someday when your kids get mad at you they're gonna take your shotgun and point it at you.

Not with a shotgun, no.
Verbal threats yes.

the best one is "I brought you into this world and I can take you out!"

I guess I should say..not with little kids..only with older youth and teens..

You have got to be kidding me!! This has to be a joke, surely you would not do that to your children. What is they tell someone you are doing that? You know you would never really shoot them, but if they told a teacher or someone, they might not be so sure!! I would stop doing that ASAP!!

Actually, you'll find that it won't work out best for them in the long-term. It may work for the moment but your children will probably turn out to be violent human beings.
