i did martial arts for 9 months then i quit because I left the country, and now since I'm not doing that good in school I'm not allowed to take part in any dojos until I get better again...I'm going to turn17, do you think it's too late to become the best?

man, you're the perfect age to become the best. When people start out too young (kids), for the most part their technique will be only superficially good. By that I mean it will look good but they are only going through the motions with no real understanding of the principle and concepts behind what they are doing. At 17 you will have the maturity required to understand the concepts and body mechanics behind your martial art of choice as well as the physical ability to be able to pull it off. You are still young enough that you can easily bounce back from most injuries that hold back the older guys.

Hell yeah you can be the best, as long as you work hard and push youself and don't get distracted by GIRLS!!!!

Becoming THE best is a childish mindset for a martial artist. You certainly can never know who is best. At any given moment a lesser skilled opponent can defeat a superior fighter with the right technique at the right moment. What would you do if you were THE best? Stop training? Stop improving? Brag like an impetuous idiot?

Strive to be YOUR best. If you are at YOUR best, you will be the best you can be. If that's not good enough to be THE best, so be it. If you are beaten it will not because you failed to train hard and push yourself. We all have natural limitations and genetic limits on just how much we can improve our speed, flexibility, endurance, tolerance for pain, VO2 uptake etc. Our instructors have limitations as teachers. All these things are not limitless and neither are you. Be content to do all that you can and be all that you can, since you can do no more. Win the battle with yourself first.

The answer would be "HELL NO!!!!"
Never will it be late to continue arts, martial arts.
Just because you left a country doesnt mean to martial art left you, some martial arts are taught almost all over the world.
Boxing for instance(less of a martial art^_^)
Taekwondo, Aikido, Karate, Judo, Wushu,etc...
these are quite common around the world...
I started to take serious participation when i'm 15,it aint that late, and i almost reach that 180' leg splitting in 2years of training...ALMOST!!

well you're not too old for studying Martial Arts, but as JerryL said, how do you expect to do well in Martial Arts if you're not doing well in school acedemically?

and besides that fact, most MA schools will not let you participate if you're not doing well in school with your grades, so you really need to focus on yor grades and bring them back up.

Make a deal with your parents; if they'll consider letting you take Martial Arts again and continue your training if you keep your grade averages within a decent expectation for them, the higher the better, it'll work better for you in setting a goal.

While Martial Arts is a good addition to your life, it's not more important than getting an education.

Good luck, get your grades up and I hope you can return to your Martial Arts training

If you don't have the discipline to make it in school then how do you expect to excel in martial arts? You have to apply that discipline, courage, and dedication in all aspects of your life. Get things together and put forth your best efforts in everything you do every day. It is never too late to succeed.

Its never too late.....continue where you left off and train everyway possible! Your still very young and can absorb alot from your instructors....your only gonna be the best to your abilities and to whatever limits you stride for...so push it !! Make it happen....you will regret it later down the road!!

the best should not be your goal.
BEing as good as you can be is your goal.

and its really never too late, there are even martial arts that older people try, so at your age, do whatever you want!
