Your pup is SO lucky that you care enough to feed the best!
You won't find anything, and I mean anything, but garbage at your grocery store..
There are many high quality dog foods available these days..I used to feed Nutro Chicken/Rice...My pups grew great, and, as my breed is long-coated, they had gorgeous coats in no time...
However, their teeth were always stained..I never knew why, but they seemed to need constant cleaning, to be ready to show..
So, I switched to Eukenuba, and they had better teeth, and nice coats..but bowels were always loose...
I fed Abady's for 2 litters, and liked what it did for the pups..but it stank..and was too un-handy....
I fed Purina Pro Plan when it came out..Pups did well..no complaints...
However, my supplier recommended Canidae 21/2 years ago..WOW! I never knew that my oldsters could be so rejuvenated! Suddenly they were putting on gorgeous coats, and acting as puppies..full of play..dancing as we walked...It just blew me away...
Then I took a 10 year old to have a cyst removed, and the vet came out amazed at her blood-work..he said that it was that expected in a 4-5 year old...He also said that he always cleans teeth while they are 'under', but that her teeth were absolutely clean..
I took another in to be spayed, at 7 years old, and the vet was amazed at how white and clean her teeth were..and then when he took out stitches..commented that she healed so fast that the incision was already hard to see...
All my dogs have just thrived on Canidae, and I would sure recommend it..It is made from all human grade ingredients, and natural preservatives..
there are other foods that are likely as good..but, as Canidae is easy to find, and they are doing so well, I wouldn't want to switch..
Other great dog foods that you can find most places, are Wellness, Innova, Solid Gold, Wysong, Natural Balance, Royal Canine...
these premium kibbles actually cost less per month to feed.. I feed many large dogs, so I keep track of the costs..

We have a Pit Bulll mix, and 3 other large dogs. We feed them Natural Balance. It is a wonderful food. No by products and meat is the first ingredient. Canidae is also a great food, it can be a bit harder to find but it also a bit cheaper. These are super premium foods. Also, Solid Gold and Innova are very good foods too. Do not feed any grocery brand food, these usually have corn and by products and are not healthy at all. Also all though Beneful might sound good it is one of the worse foods you can feed your dog. Read the ingredients. Stay away from foods that have by-products, lots of grain, and corn. If you want a less expensive food that is Mid grade try Nutro Natural Choice it is a good food, not the best but is a huge step up from grocery store foods. Good luck! Also, Blue Buffalo is a good food and is sold at Petsmart!

Royal Canin is great, Nutro, Eagle Pack....these foods shy away from the excesive by-products, fillers, and the worst of all...corn meal. They are also cautious in Protein and Fats. The best thing to do is to keep your pit on a 20-24% Protein and 10-14% Fat content food. This will keep him healthy, and muscular. My American Staffordshire Pit, German Rottweiler, and Great Dane actually eat Authority brand (Large Breed Adult-green bag), which is PetsMart's brand. It falls within the protein and fat limits that they need in order to stay fit, and healthy(plus i work at their vet hospital!). I also treat and train them with a recipe for Satin Balls, I included the recipe link as well! Iams, Purina....they all do not have the good content percentages, plus they use even more fillers than most...Eukanuba is owned by Iams. Bil-Jac is a good food too.
Good Luck!
Here are some links to the other foods I recommended.

Iams is good. I know Science diet is supposed to be good for them but I swear I've never seen a dog who liked it yet!!!! I am also a big fan of Purina's BENEFUL it doesn't make them poop alot of garbage, and its got healthy stuff in it. It's not as expensive as the other name brands, and surprisingly, it's pallitable to the dogs. They have puppy food, adult food, and also for special diets like the older dog. Here is a link:

I feed nothing but Beneful, they seem to thrive well on them. I rescue pits and this is the food I use for them as well as my own. My vet rave how well they look. try this and see the improvement!

Believe it or not, the best food for a dog is cat food. It has a higher ratio of protein to fat - I know this becaue I work inthe industry. The thing is that cat food costs quite a bit more more than dog food, but we 9in the industry) know that more cat owners are willing to spend the money. Most dog owners think that table scraps are okay for their dog.

Do you live near a petsmart?
Their Authority is amazing. It is high quality and cheap. I can't say enough good things about it since my cats and dogs are on it
