It is a felony. The punishment will depend on the circumstances but typically it is equal to the same for homicide or attempted murder. If the person dies during the time they are kidnapped, it could easily become a death penalty case.
Kidnapping is a very serious crime and the Feds get involved if it crosses state lines.

Bad idea if you are thinking about it, totally screwed if you did it.

if the kidnappee is being held for ranson by the kidnapper for money, than that could mean penalty by death in texas.
