This is what I make when I'm cooking just for myself and feeling a bit lonely. It's not healthy, but it's definitely "comfort food"!
Fettuccine (or spaghetti) all'Alfredo with Ham
--Bring a good-sized pot of salted water to the boil. When it boils, add your pasta. (If you're using fresh, you want an amount about the size of your fist and wrist put together. If you're using dried, the "diameter" of the pasta ends should be about 3/4"). Cook until al dente. Meanwhile:
--In a small saucepan, heat a teaspoon or so of butter until foamy. Add a peeled, slightly smashed garlic clove. Stir it around a minute or so until it's toasty-brown on all sides, then fish it out and throw it away.
--If you have a teeny bit (say a couple tablespoons) white wine hanging around, pour that in and let it buuble away to almost nothing. But if not, it'll be neary as good without it. Add 1/3 cup heavy cream and 1 more tablespoon butter, over medium-high heat. Wait until sauce is thickened slightly and forming large shiny bubbles. Remove from heat. If your pasta is not quite cooked yet, that's OK, the sauce can rest a minute or two.
--When the pasta is cooked, dump it into a colander and drain well. As soon as you dump it, add a LARGE handful grated Parmesan (the best you can afford) to the sauce and stir it in. Add a pinch of grated nutmeg--no kidding; it tastes great. Toss the pasta with the sauce and put additional Parmesan on the table.
--Spoon your pasta onto your plate. Take thin slices of prosciutto and drape them over the top of the pasta--about 2 or 3 per serving should do it. If you are so lucky as to be able to get smoked prosciutto, or Speck, that's even better--but anything, even thin-sliced ordinary ham, will work.
--Salad of bitter greens, glass of white wine. Phone call to a good friend while you're eating. Bath and some nice music after. 20 minutes reading a good, not-too-demanding book. Cup of tea, then bed.
Hope you're feeling 100% soon. Cheers.

I wouldn't eat until the depression goes away. That could lead to health problems.
Finger food! The kind you can dip and have to lick your fingers. It's always a good feeling when you have to lick BBQ sauce.
