Would you believe in God?
A self proclaimed (weak) agnostic-who is a regular on yahoo answers religion and spirituality section-said, "God is a defined concept"
Xtians believe their God/Religion is the only truth. Have you been duped into thinking that the concept of god is defined by them?

If not, then why is nobody challenging the animists and the pagans...how come you don't make fun of Ganesh? Is it possible that the only concept of God that is recognized by you is the Christian one? Even though you don't believe in God, doesn't that make you ethnically christian? Instead of saying: "I don't believe in god, couldn't you just say, "I'm not Christian". Or, "I'm recovering from Christianity"

Note: Christianity includes Juadaism, Catholicism...

It's a statistical issue. How many animists are on here asking questions? On the other hand, I've certainly confronted a fair number of Muslims on this very forum - and there's not that many of them either. In short, we are equal-opportunity de-mythifiers.

To many of us your Christian god is no more or less mythical than Ganesh, or the Tooth Fairy. It's just that your myth has shriller and more numerous exponents.

A further point is that at least here in the U.S, Christian fundamentalism is actively promoting pro-theocracy politics. And that, my friend, implies a threat to our concept of democracy.
I was a member of the military in the U.S. and we took an oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies, external AND INTERNAL.

Well, I will never attempt to speak for any other agnostics/atheists and I will try to answer you as politely as possible. I would most likely be labeled a strong agnostic or a weak atheist, but I do not care for labels much. I personally recovered from xtianity a long time ago. I rebelled by turning to paganism. I cannot say that I'm a recovering pagan, as paganism did not harm me, nor demand my complete abandonment of self. Paganism led me to educate myself and I became immersed in religious studies. Studying and weighing the facts of many religious beliefs led me my current position.

I absolutely do NOT think that the concept of "god" was defined by xtians. Xtianity is simply an ancient pagan religion in new clothes. The concept of 'god' was formed by humans over millions of years. Religion is evolving.

I do NOT believe in god and NO that doesn't make me ethically a xtian. Where do you get that from? I don't believe in ANY god. Not Ganesh, Zeus, Ra....NONE of them. However the only concept of god that I attack is the xtian one, which is what you are really wanting to know. I personally do not like 99% of xtians. I treat them the same way in face to face interactions as I do on here. I have NO respect for them or their faith. I do not seek these interactions, but when they are presented I happily give them my opinion. When confronted with their ignorance and arrogance, I will respond. To say I don't believe in god, means just that to me. Why do I not challenge other groups who believe in a concept of 'god'? Because groups outside of muslims and xtians do not seek to convert the world. They live and let live. Xtians do not.

There it is. It's not pretty, but it is my honest opinion.

The answer to "Why Knock Christianity" can be found here: http://www.opendiary.com/entryview.asp?authorcode=C101953&entry=10760

Here is the relevant text:

I focus on attacking/exposing the false beliefs of Christians because I live in a predominantly Christian culture. The three branches of the federal government are dominated by Christians. State and local government appears to be dominated by Christians, too. There have always been lots of big Christian churches wherever I've lived, along with Christian radio and TV stations, Christian bookstores, door-to-door Christian proselytizers - on and on. From my perspective, asking why I focus on Christianity is kinda like asking why a drowning person seems so preoccupied with water.

If I lived in a predominantly Islamic, Hindu, or Jewish culture, my focus would be different. If any Muslims, Hindus, or Jewish people want to debate me in my notes section, great. As near as I can recall, not one ever has. As far as I know, no Muslims, Hindus, or Jewish people read my diary, so it's hard to see why I ought to spend much time disproving beliefs all my readers already seem to reject. The few times I've pointed out the flaws in Islamic thinking seem to have inflamed Christian hatred of Muslims. That's not something I want to be a part of.

I am not "rebelling" against xtianity. I am an atheist because of extensive studying and thought, not some childish sense of independence.

I debate christianity so frequently because that is the religion I have most familiarty with, and the majority of the members of this group are christians.

Why would I be discussing Ganesh, Vishnu, Marduk, etc. when NONE of their followers are here?

It has nothing to do with the xtian definition of god...all religions are equally untrue. I just think they're silly and absurd. Then when I started to notice the cult-like control religion, particularly christianity, has over its "flock", the feelings turned more toward disgust. I am not offended by those who follow religion, believe in magic ghosts, and look forward to the end of the world...that is their choice...however, i hold contempt for those (and it is a majority, like it or not) who feel its ok for their imaginary friends "words" to be used to control the lives of others, imposing their own man-made ideology and over the heads of others while claiming moral superiority...morality based on a single book of fairy tales. Its very disturbing. Christianity most especially because it is the most prevalent in the US, and the most dangerous world-wide. I have no fear of a few muslim extremists, the so-called "terrorists" remind me of Wiley Coyote or some other fool from the cartoons...the real terror comes from the systematic brainwashing and the influence of money and power that comes from the large, organized cult of Christianity into our society. Its truly frightening...like wolves in sheeps clothing.

First, Christianity does NOT include Judiasm. Jews think Yshua was either a liar or just another mortal prophet.

Secondly, I do specifically reject all deities, known and unknown. Christianity is simply the most prominent one being forced down my throat by its adherants. If a muslim tried to shove his religion down my throat, I'd be just as merciless with him.

As far as I'm concerned, all prophets of all religions are charlatans and frauds and liars, including Yshua, Muhummad, Moses, the Buddha, Joseph Smith, Gardner (neopaganism), etc...

Sounds like you're obsessed with atheists and agnostics.

My concept of a higher power is my own. It's just more fun to **** with the Christians, everyone else is used to being messed with by Christians.

Have you ever read any responses to Muslims, or Pagans being told they're going to hell? REALLY, chick, this world does not revolve around you.

Christianity includes Judaism? Yeah! That's something to say on September 22nd., Jewish New Year's Day...

Anyway, my oposition to Christianity is two-fold. I hate the way some of them manipulate societies, and then I cannot accept the God thing. So, even if I didn't hate the manipulation, I wouldn't be able to believe.

I dunno what kind of agnostics you talk to, but you should look up what it means. i am agnostic, however the only reason i debate christianity more then the others, is i know a lot more about it as i went to a christian school all my life, and i have had it pushed in my face every time i turn around. i debate it cause you guys are disrepsectful to other people (im talking about the ones who go and force beliefs on others). however i debate athiesm too, dependant upon their view. people only can debate what they know about.

- agnostics dont believe that there is NO god, they believe that its an unproven fact of the existance of god.

"One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God. "

There is no evidence to support believing in any Gods.

Christians are the only group with which I'm aware that are attempting to force all US citizens to follow their religion.

When Wiccans, animists and others form a political coalition, finance propaganda mills with fake "experts" and other overt actions intended to force the government to sponsor & promote their religion, I will be actively opposing their efforts as well.

Do you live in a vacuum? Or, do you think atheists should remain silent while the pope, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, et al, hijack the government so it can be used to promote their personal agendas?
