With analog connections like component video, there may be some slight difference in picture quality but the big difference will be with the cables ability to reject interference.

Digital cables, on the other hand, are a totally different story: The expensive ones don't do anything the cheap ones don't. Aside from warranties, there's no difference in performance. Here's a little secret Monster Cable doesn't want you to know: Digital doesn't care. As long as a digital signal is reaching the other end of the cable, it's as good as it can be. With digital, you either have a signal or you don't, there's no in between, so unlike analog cables, in which cable quality DOES matter, the cheapest HDMI cable will perform just as well as the most expensive one.

Few years back, a magazine did a double blind test of expensive cables vs cheap cables. Needless to say, even the experts can't tell the difference. In fact, many experts thought that a basic electrical cord fashioned with RCA connectors at the end were the best out of all the wires.

So basically, the answer is NO. Don't waste your money on the cables. If you have money to spare, you'll be much happier just buying a better TV/Home Theater/etc.

Buy a expensive cable and compare it to a cheap one. If you see a difference, then there is one. Personally, I don't see any difference, however, expensive ones are made with better quality parts. Its like comparing a Mercedes to a Honda. Just because a Benz is made with better parts, doesn't mean it will last longer.

Sound quality will be the major
difference, but video quality is
a factor that will be addressed
in a higher quality HDMI cable.

A good brand that I always do
recommend for its balance of
high-end performance with a
mid-fi price: DH Labs Silver
Sonic.

If you are skeptical, I say try
a cheap cable and compare
it to a high-quality and more
expensive cable and see if
the higher priced cable will
make enough difference to
you to justify the price, and
just return the cable that is
the lesser value -and voila!

There's some minimum level of quality, but if you're talking very short runs of 6 feet or so, it doesn't matter if you buy a $10 HDMI cable from monoprice.com or a $120 cable made by Monster. High definition is *digital*--either it gets through or it doesn't.

In most cases, no, you will not notice a difference. Cable companies are just playing on peoples lack of knowledge or insecurities to increase profit, for the most part.

Usualy yes cuz the shielding is better on high grade cables than on cheap ones thus preventing normal interference signals to be fed to your tv set

Only get the expensive one if you have a long distance to run.
Otherwise you will never notice.
