I am considering having my pit bull's ears cropped. When is it too late to have that done? Does anyone have a Vet that they can recomend?

Please do not respond with negative personal opinions. My question is NOT how YOU feel about it.

hi , I too have a beautiful pit bull... please consider not doing this!... these dogs are beautiful naturally, their ears have a natural half prick look and do not need to be cropped...

Generally speaking (granted it all depends on the dog and their specific level of cartilige) you would not want to crop any dogs ears after 12 weeks old. The older they get the stronger it will get, therefore being more difficult for the vet to cut properly and for speeding healing - furthermore, a lot more painful for the dog.
And, just in case your dog is within those ranges and you do decide to crop the ears, don't get discouraged, it can often take months for a good crop to take. One thing you could always do is to add a gelatin supplement to your dogs food, it helps to strengthen the cartilige.
Best of luck to you.
P.S. - Don't listen tot he nay-sayers. Cropping is a personal preference. If there was such a hoopla about having cropping done and it being torturous then dewclaw removal and tail docking should be right up there as well! Just keep in mind (my own personal opinion) that floppy ears are just as cute - and a lot less stress on you and your pet!

it is never too late, but it is too painful after the first year. there is a window to do it so that their ears will actually stand after cropping them. i believe it is from the 8-10 mth time period. i was going to do the same with my boxer but as i checked in with vets i was amazed by the cost to do them. Most vets are using a laser type device to crop ears now, and they are charging in the upwards of $350 in my area.

I haven't met a vet that will do it after 12 weeks old..That is when the cartilage will produce a standing ear..9-12 weeks...after that, the 'flop' will always be there..with a very silly look..

How would you like to have half of your ears cut off? People like you should not be allowed to own animals.

This is plain mutilation and torture. Would you like your ears cropped? Don't do it.
