Matthew 5:17-18, Jesus stated: “Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the [way of] the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them. For, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.”

Suzanne: And how is it exactly that one goes about stoning spiritual children rather than actual ones?

I haven't stoned my children yet. But now I see that is what God commands us to do. Praise Jesus.

Attentiio: luvwinz, who says that OT verses aren't applicable. Read Matthew:

5:17 Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfil.

5:18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

5:19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

LMAO. I DO love this question for all the fundamentalist Xtians out there. The pat answer is that the New Testament supercedes the Old. That is until they want to judge homosexuals or throw stones. Then the Old Testament all of a sudden becomes extremely relevant. Just another example of the stunning hypocrisy and pick and choose mentality of the fundamentalist Xtian.

This Law of God is still in force!! There did that get your attention.. Well it is, The thing is all the wrongs done by children now are under the protection of the Blood of Christ. Disobedient children deserve to die under the Law we all deserve to die if we are judged by the Law. That why christians love Christ so much. He died for us, we are free from that penalty because of Him.. Does that mean we can steal, and commit murder and go scott free. If we are truly a believe before God we can. Before the State that a whole different matter. I also don't remember a lot of christians committing murders either.... Jim

Okay. Christians don't follow Old Testament laws in the manner that they are written in the Old Testament. Everything you've states is an OT scripture.

When Jesus came, He pointed out to the keepers of these laws that they were given the rules so that their lives would be better, not so they'd have laws to follow and punish. He stated that killing someone over the law wasn't the desired result.

Therefore, Christians, being followers of Christ, wouldn't follow the OT laws in the way they were written. They would seek out their more humane point.

You clearly know little about Christianity.

No but my teenager has gotten in trouble for coming home stoned. All things before the NT were subject to mosaic law. Jesus fulfilled the law but in fulfilling it there were some things that became unnecessary anymore. Stoning anyone to death is not permitted. For Jesus said "He without sin, cast the first stone."

If I really thought you'd listen, I'd show you from the Scriptures where NO ONE was qualified to perform these punishments. This may not be an easy concept for you, but have you considered these things were never meant to actually be performed? Before God gave the Laws to Moses, He told the Jews He sought to "test" them. This is part of that test.

Anyone who knows God understands this. If you really want to understand how the Law prohibits stoning, send me a message.

As for the Psalm 137:9 reference, you are mixing apples and oranges. This doesn't refer to actual children; it refers to spiritual children.

Peace.

Okay, you are calling on Christians, but all your quotes come from the Old Testament... Christian comes from Christ which is the New Testament... Jesus NEVER said anything like this... The Old Testament also says "an eye for an eye" while Jesus told us not to seek vengeance but to show the other cheek... According to the Old Testament, it was also okay to divorce, but not according to Jesus...
So which do you choose?

The Levitical Law of the Old Testament (from which you cite) was done away with on the Cross of Christ. (600+ ordinances)
The Mosaic Law remains intact. (Ten Commandments)
The Great Commandment taught by Jesus remains intact.

In neither the Mosaic Law, nor the Great Commandment are Christians directed to stone their disobedient children.

No, but my youngest daughter insists that I've almost bored her to death on various occasions.

Even when I was religious lad, I could discern that these prescriptions were the product of primitive minds. Of course being Catholic we all took a non-literalist view of "scripture." Later I was shocked to learn that adults could subscribe to and defend the veracity of these diatribes. It isn't a question of the "old" vs the "new" - it was ALWAYS wrong.
