This happened to me once and it was a scary experience. we tried to head back to Fajardo got about a mile away, and had to go back. the ferry got swamped with giant waves. Is this a regular occurence?

we went accross in beginning of October. Everyone handed out life jackets and huddled together ot the front of the ferry.

I lived in PR for 23 years, and never heard of any incidents regarding the ferry. We must be aware that it depends on the water and weather. But it is such a short ride that I am sure it just scares the possibility of being stranded at sea, which has not and never will happen. To answer your question, it is a regular ocurrence that people need to put on lifejackets if the water gets too wavy, but unless there is a weather phenomenon going on it not a regular ocurrence at all. In the other hand you can also take a flight from Isla Verde, Isla Grande, or Fajardo to Culebra for about $50. It can be a scary ride too, the airplanes are very small and land real close to the water.

I was just in PR and took the ferry from Fajardo - Culebra. I did a lot of research and asked some local friends about the ferry and no one ever mentioned it. I would imagine that if it was common, someone would have mentioned the possiblity of it.

Yes this happens once in awhile. You were lucky the ferry didn't break down on you. I am from PR. Lived there from 1991 to 2004. Very scary.

NO , I LIVE ON THE ISLAND AND I GO THERE AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH AND THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE THE ONLY TIME I DONT GO THERE IS IN NOVEMBER AND DEC CAUSE IN THAT TIME THE WAVES REALLY GET WILD MAYBE U WENT DURING THIS TIME ?
