Do you actually think you are talking to a god (or The God, whatever), or do you feel it is more of a personal affirmation of your hopes and desires? Like, "I really really hope so-and-so doesn't die from that car accident...Please God save him/her!" Are prayers like this for the injured/needy or are they for your own piece of mind, to make YOU feel better since you cant actually do anything to help the situation?

Or like me, do you just think that praying is just wishing to yourself? Like "mmm I wish I had an ice cream cone right now!"

Praying is talking to yourself and wishing that some higher being would help you when you are in a situation where you can't help yourself.

In a right relationship with our Creator, prayer is a warm, engaging, 2-way conversation with our Best Friend, our Hope, our Provider, our Just and Heavenly Father...the One who gave us our existence and Purpose.

Who, despite our NOT recognizing Him, loved us so much He gave us His Only Son to DIE that we may live and our RELATIONSHIP with Him be restored.

Sadly, not many of us learn how to pray until we have been severely tested.

When one's greatest need is an ice cream cone, then prayer really becomes "worthless".

I am praying for YOU. ; ) Have a nice weekend.

Praying is a feeling as much an action. Prayer takes the Holy Spirit, our access to the presence of God, to our Lord for supplication where Jesus makes intersession on our behalf. There is only one rule to prayer that I know of: you must believe in the Lord. In believing, we are the sons and daughters with Christ and therefore party to the inheritance that is God's favor. That is how prayers are answered. If you believe, pray in the Holy Spirit, confess Jesus as your Savior and make supplication with pure motive, you will likely get that ice cream cone...

Praying is talking to God... there is a time for the formal kind and there is time for just letting it all hang out and haveing a good conversation with Him...Unless you are Truly of The Faith That will make no sense... I will not try to explain...

"i wish I had and ice cream cone" is not a prayer... it is a wish...But...if God thinks you need one... then you will get one...

here is a link to a page on my website about prayer. it is direct so you do not have to wade through my website to find it. It is not too deep...just my pov from my faith in the one I pray to.

When I pray I talk to God and when I am really close to God and I have opened my heart to him God speaks to me. I have had some very close personal times with God where I spoke to him in Groans and utterances.

People who don't know God have know idea what they are missing. I wish you all could be close to God and see what an overflowing experience it is, many of you think sex is great you ain't got a clue what it's like to be filled to overflowing with the Spirit of God.

I have at times been to the point I begged God to spread it around and let others have some of it because I could not handle the experience.

Praise God.

Praying is talking to God for guidance. When I go home tonight, i am going to ask God for help because I need a peace of mind. Right now, I am being tortured and waiting for the "right" job to come along because I keep on looking at job boards for 5 weeks now and I am still umemployed. i have to wait and continue waiting. Hope I don't wait that long becuase I have bills to pay.

Prayer is putting yourself in God's presense. There are many different kinds of prayer. Many different ways to pray. It need not have any words what-so-ever.

"Contemplation," such as the Buddhists and Monastics do is silent. That's when we hear the voice of God.

"Petition" is when we are praying to request something.

"Worship" is prayer that simply glorifies God.

I could go on, but I think you get the picture.

If you believe in God, then praying is simply talking to Him. The scripture says that His word does not return void unto Him. This means that when you recall His scriptural promises and precepts to Him, that He is faithful to keep His word. And there is also a scripture that saiys "Come, let us reason with Him..."
There's alot more to God, praying, and the relationship with Him and how He works in a person's life than what the average individual may realize.

Morning prayer to Isis
Light a candle and incense if possible.

"Awake, awake, awake in peace Goddess of light and grace.Awake, awake, awaken me. Heal my heart set me free."

A Pagan Prayer
Water, Fire, Air, and Earth,
Womb to life, death to rebirth.
Our Great Wheel of the seasons turns,
The mortal heart forever yearns.
The sacred Sabbat candle burns,
Within our souls its light sojourns.
We all are children of the Goddess
and to Her we shall return:
Womb to life, death to rebirth,
Water, Fire, Air, and Earth.

It doesnt matter what spiritual path you follow, the personal conversation between a person and their chosen deity is a special connection that sometimes makes a person feel at peace with themselves and the world around them.

Prayer flags are inscribed with auspicious symbols, invocations, prayers, and mantras. Tibetan Buddhists for centuries have planted these flags outside their homes and places of spiritual practice for the wind to carry the beneficent vibrations across the countryside. Prayer flags are said to bring happiness, long life and prosperity to the flag planter and those in the vicinity.

My Opinion:

Praying is talking to God. Wishing is different and often more selfish. Not only should you be asking for blessings, you should be sending out some praises to Him.
